Slow changing gears / Automatic gear box problems

Hi all,

I am having problems with the dreaded "G" word! Gear box on my car.

I have an NA Auto 95 plate Supra (import), which generally is in really good condition mechanically. However, for past month or so it has been very slow in changing up gears. It revs high and eventually changes up, the gear box oil is clear and at the right level and all I can think of doing is having someone do the transmissions for me.

My dads a mechanic and agrees that its changing slow, but has said its not making any noises or anything else concerning!

Obviously with it being a gear box I am concerned but myself only a amateur when it comes to mechanics I am unsure, my dads a mechanic but hasn't worked on many Supra's so any advice from people that have had this problem on their Supra's and what they did would be appreciated. If not, up the transmissions garage she goes.....

Not had this problem on a Supra, but most automatic gearboxes have speed sensors which 'tell' the gearbox ECU to change up or down at the right speed. These can fail or the pins on the plugs can get corroded if they are situated on a section of the gear box casing that catches the crap off the road.

The speed sensors are not expensive from the US, I only say that because when a similar problem happened to my old Kia saloon, the replacement sensor was under $40 delivered from the US, but £85 from the local Kia dealer.

On US ebay for $14.95!

It does sound like a sensor problem, could be one of the speed sensors or the throttle position sensor?

Does it show any fault codes?

Here's a complete transmission for less than you'll pay for a second hand sensor. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Toyota-Supra-automatic-gearbox-conversion-mk4-w58/262076966193?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140107083358%26meid%3D3ea058eb8c7b4322a58a0c1349e48734%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D3%26sd%3D262058725793
