Power Steering Fluid - Toyota Type T-IV ?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I think my Power Steering fluid needs topping up in my Auto Supra TT. Can't see any markers on the bottle cap/dip stick, can anyone tell me where it should be up to?

Also I have some Toyota Type T-IV ATF left from a gearbox oil change from earlier this year, can I use this as Power Steering fluid or should I be using Dextron II or Dextron III ATF?

Anyone know how much ATF it takes to fill fully?

Cheers

Hi there should be 2 marks on the dip cap

One side hot other side cold

Check with engine off

Hi pal, saw the words hot/cold on either side, didn't really see any markers, will look again now. Just looked, I get it, the words HOT / COLD are the markers as they are at different heights on the dip stick.

Any idea how much ATF it takes to fill fully?

Cheers

Its just about showing on the stick, so definitely in need of a top up. I will check for any leaks now.

Can I use the Toyota Type T-IV ATF that I have left from a gearbox oil change from earlier this year or should I be using Dextron II or Dextron III ATF? The bottle cap says use Dextron.

It's an O-ring, take it off and find one the same at Halfrauds or elsewhere for pennies.

Going to do it tomorrow. I think the Toyota part number for the O ring is 90301-11016.

Just need to know about the fluid now, then I can get on with it.

Cheers

As your be changing the o ring your be emptying the reservoir

Might be worth cleaning it while off

The gauze filter in it can get blocked over time

Give it a good swill out with petrol but Do not poke anything in there as easy to damage

Okay started on it yesterday after work, I got 45 mins before it started to rain. Both pipes from the P//S reservoir are now disconnected, the one to the pump was very brittle and ripped on removal, so ordering a replacement this morning. While I wait for parts to come I am going to clean the tank out as suggested. Once everything is clean and all new parts arrive and are fitted (O-Ring / Hose etc..) what is the next steps ?

Do I just fill the P/S reservoir up to the correct fill level and its job done or do I need to somehow bleed the system to get rid of any air locks. If so how do I do this?

Thanks for your help guys !

:D

Raise front car up off ground

Engine off

Fill tank and fullly turn left and right check tank make sure it's on cold level indicated

Do thus approx 10 times checking level

Now with engine on but still off the ground repeat but check level engine off

Place on floor and do again but do not hold on full lock

UPDATE:

Removed the P/S reservoir last night, cleaned out with petrol and dried out with compressed air.

Hopefully manage to pop out of work this afternoon to pick up my bits from Toyota. Then its just a case of putting everything back together and going through the steps to refill the system. Hopefully will get chance to fit everything tonight after work and then do the refill the system on Saturday.

Managed to fit everything back up. The top P/S reservoir hose split to, so ended up replacing that to, although Toyota quoted over £300 for it, . They seemed very brittle, most likely the originals from 1996.

Found the instructions really helpful. So cheers guys.

The O Ring went on fine, used a little bit of grease at recommended. Did all the left / right turning in air and on the ground, fluid levels look fine and there is now NO leaks. :D
