scotty71
Fitted a new radiator and after speaking with keron about refilling, I've filled up the rad to the top, started the car with the heater on 2 and the temp to max. Getting no heat through the heater and the expansion bottle started to bubble and gurgle so turned car straight off. Any ideas as got MOT tomorrow so need to sort it if I can guys
scotty71
Also the Trd rad cap doesn't seem to be a tight fit on the new rad, fitted firm on the old rad, could this also be an issue ?
Mike2JZ
Also the Trd rad cap doesn't seem to be a tight fit on the new rad, fitted firm on the old rad, could this also be an issue ? If the rad cap isn't secure then the system won't pressurize properly leading to problems. Sounds like you need a different rad cap
Al Massey
Keep it running and carry on. You need to get coolant round the whole system.
scotty71
Cheers al so do I need to run it with a new rad cap on till I get heat through then check Nd top up radiator. If so I'll have to get one tomorrow off keron or Toyota.
JayJay1374
I normally run it till its hot with the rad cap off and heaters on full. Squeezing the top rad pipe now and then. Then once no water drops put the rad cap on and make sure there's plenty in the expansion tank.
Al Massey
I usually Jack the front end up, fill the rad and start the engine. I don't put the heater on till it gets hot. Then check the level every few minutes. Once it starts steaming put rad cap back on, put some coolant in overflow tank and watch that. Every now and then squeezing the bottom rad pipe. Then I switch off, let cool down a bit, check rad and top up. When cold the expansion tank should be half full.
Fitz
I usually Jack the front end up, fill the rad and start the engine This, have you jacked the front end up? Helps ease out air locks when the system gets filled with coolant.
Chris Wilson
Let it gurgle and steam, rad cap off, keep it idling and *keep topping up* until it stabilises. the thermostat needs to open, hence you need to get it hot.
