ianhid
Hi guys, I left a junction in a bit of a hurry last night and as I came off the gas heard a pop. Car proceeded to wheeze along at atmospheric for the 3 minutes to my door, won the traffic light GP though so that's good. On closer inspection it seems that a junction in the (stock?) pipes leaving the intercooler, roughly below the viscous fan has come apart. Are there any tips for keeping it together other than "do it up tight you muppet"? Thanks, Ian.

j_jza80
Hairspray is a really bad idea. Pushing the silicone hose back on must be a bitch! Get some decent hoses and some proper constant tension clamps

j_jza80
As said, getting the silicone hoses on/off when hairsprays there must be a nightmare. Just buy the correct size hoses and some Murray clamps, and they will never blow off. - - - Updated - - - As said, getting the silicone hoses on/off when hairsprays there must be a nightmare. Benjy
That's the point, you don't want them to pop off, which is why hair spray's a good idea. Pretty sure the IC pipework's stock on Ian's car, so Toyota clamps should suffice.
Chris Wilson
Hair spray works fine, it's not Araldite and you can still get the hoses free again. It just dries to give them more ppurchase. be sure to clean all oil and grease from inside the hoses and outside of whatever they push over with something like brake cleaner first. j_jza80
Still don't see the need for bodges swaged pipes, correctly sized joiners and high quality constant tension clamps will do the job.

Golfpro
Are the pipe ends beaded or plain? Mine kept popping off even with two heavy duty straps on each end Bought a hand made pipe beader off ebay for £30. Now one clip on each pipe, problem sorted
Chris Wilson
I was assuming stock pipework.
ianhid
Yeah, the pipes are stock. It's running up to 1.2 on J-spec's, as long as I remember to lift at about 5k. Got another leak/issue in there somewhere that's kicking it up towards , highest on recent record was 1.5, that's a bit too high for my wallet at the moment. Currently hunting for problems but may have to give it to someone with skills to track down.
