Would it be safe to assume a boost solenoid was 12v operation?

If you have a GOOD multimeter measure the resistance of its coil. Ohm's Law will then say what current it would draw at 12V and you can see if it is sensible. I suspect it WILL be a 12V one though if you feel lucky? Can't you just look at the voltage coming out of the circuit that controls it? Or are you trying to utilise a random solenoid in a different circuit?

Scott is helping me with my Sard Trigger, so that's what solenoid it is.

 

chris, is the issue with testing the voltage sent by the boost controller not that it only sends the signal to actuate once it has reached the preset value? I.e 1.2 bar, making it difficult to test while standing over it.

As above, I can't find any voltage info. The controller is 12v as it's obviously in the car system. I don't believe the voltage will vary as it'll be an on or off operation, quickly oscillating between on and off to control the boost.

I would go so far as to say it WILL be 12V , but as you say, it will be pulse width modulated. I am thinking of bringing a cheap pulse width modulation tester to the marketplace, so people can test coil packs, injectors, drive by wire throttle motors, and of course, PWM opersted solenoids. i have got as far as designing a cheap to make PWM oscillator, and am working a FET power device for switching that people can't blow up ;)
