Anyone owned a 350z?

Hi guys,

Just wanting some advice for my brother as for some reason he's obsessed with getting a 350z. I told him a supra is better but they are becoming more uncommon by the day! (It would have to be a 5 speed non turbo..) I also told him that finding a decent 350z will require just as much patience because from what I've seen of the ones I've viewed there aren't many good ones!

I was just wondering which owners club is the best to go with? As I would want him to get a good example and get the best advice.

Thanks guys

A 350z will be in a different league to an NA Supra in terms of performance.

True but he's 20 and his driving ability is.... Well I'll leave it at that. Plus this will be his second car from a Citroen Saxo 1.1.... So I don't really want him jumping in a 350z with a twitchy back end but he's obsessed. Unless anyone has some better alternatives?

A Z is not that quick, like most cars you have to push it to get seriously out of shape, plus its got a pretty nanny traction control even when its turned off;)

The N/A supra would perhaps be slightly more predictable handling wise, an S 13 or S14 is probably the easiest to get out of shape.

I had one.... last about a year. It heavy, decent(ish) power and was fun. Sold to fund MX5 and mods because missus wanted to start track days. There was a Z4 on track today, looked good, sounded lovely (aftermarket exhaust), not massively quick, but very planted and looked great whilst going round.

My misses has a 350z. AP brakes, 5zigen exhaust ect, awesome car and much better than an na supra, I'd rather that than a tt auto. Nice drive, sound epic when you boot it, better than a any bpu I've heard. Power gains can be limited but unless your gunna throw 20k at a supra it doesn't matter. Oh and more modern aswell which helps. Stuff like heated seats is always a bonus

Oh and they arnt that twitchy, they only really kick out if you make it, and a lot better daily too. Quite a civilised motor :D if I was to sell my car and wanted something abit cheaper to tear about in id have one in a heartbeat

I raced one years ago in my old auto TT & it oliberated it, I thought he missed a gear or something but he was flat out! He thought my car was modified, but it was stock apart double decat. So tell him to just save a little extra & get an auto TT! :D

My colleague has a 370z & that looks lovely!

Not surprising an auto TT outran it,early models only had 276bhp ,later models 296 and last 308.I had a 296 it was a great car at the moment looking for a 370z

Yeah.... I do t know any 350z that's gonna keep up with a TT Auto especially at bpu levels!

A friends got the new 370z nismo and even that can't keep up with my TT auto!

But back to the OP's question, I'd say a nice 350z would be a better bet than an N/A Supra.

Pretty solid engines, safety features and good fun for a second car, but he does need to respect it or he will come unstuck.

As mentioned point him in the direction of MX5 / Z4 / Merc SLK as well and see what he thinks.

Personally I'd stay away from the 200sx as it will be even harder to find a decent one these days and insurance may be higher for him.

Just a thought.

I've had a JDM 350z, hi-rev 350 (bonnet bulge model) and 370. I love them, very good cars. If getting one and the 370 is out of budget then try and get a hi-rev, I think 2009 onwards. Massive improvement on the previous model 350z, better gearbox, engine and interior - add twin induction kit and it sounds amazing. I should never have sold mine.

Personally I would tell him to go for the 350z.

If this will be his main car the fact that the 350z is newer would be a primary consideration.

As a member surprisingly I am generally biased towards the Supra, but let's not forget is an ageing car with depleting parts supplies, and can be expensive to run.

The 350z will still be nice and modern, good build quality, ready supply of OEM parts and would probably be a better buy for a young driver.

I would also think the insurnace would be cheaper?

Yes this...

The 350z is a good car - I had the drop-top and loved it

If you have had a BPU supra you will be disappointed after a while with the top end power - but tbh the acceleration is the same as an N/A. Handling is brilliant and sticks well - not twitchy at all. After all - it is a new car!

Mods to engine not worth it - bit of breathing adds a touch HP - the internals cant take much else.

The Nissan paintwork is rubbish - so check for lacquer peel

Have a look on the 350z forum for anything else to look out for

I've got one. They're a good car..... better drive than an N/A Supra, but not comparable to a TT or big single.

They sound great even as standard. I'm still looking for a Nismo S Tune exhaust for mine to enhance the sound a bit more, but struggling to find one.

Going on DBV2 with mine at the end of this month as my Supra is not finished yet. Think I may struggle a bit to keep up lol

Honestly I very much doubt you'll ever notice the difference between a 350z and tt in standard forms. A standard tt supra much like a 350z isn't a 10 second car, people like up think they are though :D I would honestly go for whichever one your bro prefers. Power will be similar and so will handling ect. And both can look awesome with a few little tweaks :) honestly I would go for a 350z over an na. Not knocking na's what so ever. Just my thought

I'm not trying to pitch my car but I really enjoyed driving my 350z got it at 19/20 and had plenty of power at that age. Currently has airlift on it which has completely transformed it. Feels solid going round corners! I just had brand new clutch and flywheel fitted. So let me know if he's interested ;)
