Chris Wilson
OK, I know some of you will agree without reading any further I have built a powerful, complicated amplifier for low frequency work, and it gave me a lot of teething problems. Late last night I finally ironed out the bugs and decided, at 1.30 AM it was a good time to drill the case for some rubber feet. i did it, and decided to have one last test and go to bed. I plugged it in, turned it on, and all the lights in the house went out, with an associated flash and bang. I'd only drilled into the main toroidal transformer which was a special order from Poland. I then managed to fall over a stool in the dark, and knock a mug off the side, smashing it and spilling tea everywhere... I remember the transformer took ages to arrive, so I am going to strip the windings off it and rewind it by hand. I think this may be a VERY tedious job, but it's my punishment to myself! What a tosser I am!! Stupid old git.
mwilkinson
Yep. Impatience got the better of you there. At 1.30 am you should have simply called it quits. How many windings do you think there are on the transformer?

Hammer
Plenty of immigrants to do the job for you at below minimum wage Chris. Sometimes things just work out good that way, .
Chris Wilson
Crime statistics seem to show mixing immigrants and copper wire is a good way to say bye bye to the copper wire.....

Chris Wilson
Oh dear, any pics of the damage Chris Just finished the repair, and about to test, I managed to remove the secondaries and expose the primary winding, then cut out two turns, shrink sleeve and solder in two new turns. Not as bad as I thought the job would be. Time will tell.. - - - Updated - - - So THAT'S why Telford was in black out!?
