I don't really want to take the Supra on the track if I can avoid it, because I don't want to crash it or damage it, spending allot of time and money currently doing it up, I'd be gutted.

Want something cheap just to start me off, so everyone suggesting expensive track cars its great for me to look towards in the future if I get into it, but I just want to test the waters for now, I don't see why people who haven't raced before would risk putting a nice car on the track, that's why I thought the Celica as I already have it.

I am keeping my eye open for an MX5, anyone know of anything that I should keep my eye out for when buying them? My dads a mechanic so will defo be getting him to check it over, but if anyone has advice then its appreciated :)

I've met more arseh0les on the road to work than I ever have on a track!

But fair enough, the whole point is to enjoy the experience and wring the neck of whatever you're in, you can't do that if pound signs keep clouding your vision every time you hear a tyre squeal!

Get the Celica out on track then for a day or two, it may not be the most dynamic of drives but you'll still get a taste of what it feels like drive harder than you possibly ever have before and you can still knock a bit of fun out of a Celica's potential. Something that doesn't bite you in the ass first time out would probably be better than a short sharp shock anyway:)

Oh & welcome to the slippery slope that is track car.

Its more the effort I am putting in to building the Supra, I am trying to do everything myself so allot of love is going into the car, if I crash it or someone scrapes me then that's what I'd be worried about. Owning a Supra I know about £ signs hehe :)

Lol I am hoping I enjoy it, my dad used to race motor cross so I've always wanted to try racing of some sorts :)

Do you race?

Heckler is currently selling an MX5 in the classifieds :) He is an RAF Electronics engineer from what I gather, so I should think it has been well looked after :)

Be interesting to know what stage it looks mentally fast in a straight line

That looks like Getak, if it is, you are lucky to be alive and Im very surprised he made a lap on the track ;) only know of one white GTR with the aeromotive rear spoiler. Did the car have a personalised plate similar to "Getak"?

Not wheel to wheel, no.

Bought an NA Supra back in 2008 with the intention of attending track days, finally got out on track nearly 18 months after that when I had a few bits done to it I thought were necessary.

Roll on a few more years and I ditched the 2JZ-GE engine & W58 gearbox in favour of the 1JZ-GTE engine & R154 gearbox, other than that the car looks a mess, but is fundamentally sound.

Now I compete in the Irish Time Attack series and am currently third in the Pro class championship, last round is Sunday the 27th of September, hopefully I can keep my nearest competitor behind me for the day and go home with a nice trophy!

Cool video!

How do you find the corners and sticking to the racing line in the Supra? Mines an NA Auto and can be abit slugish, need a manual lol!

Good luck for the race, hope you take home a trophy!

Thanks!

The car's handling is pretty good and many passengers have remarked on its ability to change direction. There is still a world of things that could, should and would be done if funds allowed but so far the polyurethane rebush, CW Bilsteins and Cusco diff are doing a respectable job on the tight Mondello track.

The right tyres are crucial of course, it's getting to the stage where just any old hoop of rubber is not going to cut it anymore. I certainly think my times would improve with a set of premum track tyes fitted, to the front axle at least. Before now my driving was just too inconsistent to make any real assumptions based on my lap times.

Have you had to gut it interior wise? Supra is a heavy car.

What kind of tyres would you get for the Supra? My friend has just done a NA-T conversion on his daily and bought some Pirelli tyres for it, not sure they are needed for the roads in this country, but for track maybe?

Michelin Pilot Sport Cups would probably be my next choice in tyres although I would certainly give Kumho's V70A tyres another try as I found them to be very capable, if a little short lived, as in four track days from new to scrap. I spent more on tyres than I did on fuel over those four days and I go to track days with 100 litres on board!

The interior is totally gutted but any weight saving was lost with a badly executed roll cage install, this would be my first flaw to address if I could rebuild in the morning. The problem even has me on the lookout for a second shell that I could really take my time on and build properly to a much higher standard with actual performance goals in mind.

And even then it wouldn't be a patch on some of the examples on this site alone.

I must be dreaming. I've tried pinching myself numerous times but it's just not going away. Did someone just say the MK2 MR2 handles like crap and then put forward a Yaris as a top option? WT actual F? The MR2 handles like it's on absolute rails, the only type of person I can imagine thinking differently is someone who has to look at the gear knob to change gear.

Another vote on the MX-5 from me!

Owned 2x prior to the Supra, very very rewarding car to drive, even better with an LSD fitted and handle great out of the box.

Weigh less than a Ton too so nice and nimble.

I am seriously considering getting another, just watch out for rot, rear sills and arches are prone too it and mine were shot as i discovered when lowering it onto axle stands only to hear the sill collapse...

Wasnt too much work though, had a crack at the repairs myself lol

My old one here, spent a fortune on it, fully overhauled engine, Coilovers, Cusco Bars, Full Polybushes, KAAZ LSD, HKS Exhaust.....

We should have a poll; My vote would be the Mk2 MR2. Mine cost £740 (the turbo version), all I did was ditch the interior, buy some good brakes, and tyres. A delimiter was a couple of quid, and I was passing cars 20 times the price of mine.

They're amazing cars, no doubt. Especially the tubby variant. Proper weapons when setup properly. The trouble is they are never going to be for everyone. They're raw and very unforgiving, that's what I absolutely LOVED about it though :D
