Its a shame the old RSR exhaust was rusty, could it not be repaired. That was always a great sounding exhaust!

Yea it was a great sounding exhaust. I'll be having a look when I go down there tomorrow but apparently it had a lot of holes in it so maybe it wasn't repairable. If it is then I'll get it repaired and have a think which I want to keep! Maybe I'll like the HKS.

Where the exhaust connects to the mid pipe it is rusted through almost all the way round; you'll love the HKS!

Nice updates

Did you get your calipers refurbed by a company? I wanted to get mine done but it's like a 4 week turnaround with some companies :(

The garage my car is at in cambridge sorted them out. It's just a light refurb so cleaning up all the Pistons etc and the pins were rusted so those were changed for stainless steel ones. And the calipers are to be painted with new supra decals applied. I should be picking it up end of next week as I'm away for the week but I can't wait!

It was at DI Racing in Cambridge. Definitely would recommend for anyone in the area.

Jackyboi on the forum works there too and him and Damien were great.

Big thank you to Mr Chris Wilson, the resident forum genius and a real gent. Helped us out today checking everything with us over the phone which helped massively and sorted the boost issue we were having.

The boost issue was embarrassingly that the second turbo wasn't even kicking in and I hadn't realised.... this was due to a pipe at the back connecting from the intake to behind the engine was split and off but it's really hard to see. So I was only boosting to 0.8 bar because the second turbo didn't even kick in. After Damien fixed that issue, we took it for another test drive and it pulled like a train hitting 1.1 bar at 40% on the boost controller. After that I put it up to 52% and it hit 1.19 bar and I was in the back of my seat when that second turbo kicked in!

Got my high boost at 56% atm which is 1.26 bar and low boost is 10% at 1.07 bar and that's perfect setup atm. Got the gain worked out too which is good. I'll post my settings for everyone's benefit tomorrow.

Also just so everyone knows how to wire up the new greddy profec OLED boost controller. You leave the second turbo as it is plumbed in and just control it via the solenoid for the boost controller instead of the OEM solenoid on the first turbo if that makes sense.

Things left to do on the car are the top of the boot shut has which has surface rust,

I know it's a common problem but I hate ANY rust. So that will be next.

The bonnet needs a respray as its got cracks. The finish from whoever done it is good but the prep is absolutely terrible because you can see the old black bonnet through the cracks!

After that I want to get the wheels touched up. Doesn't look like too good a job was done refurbing them either so that will need to be done.

Also need to raise the doors while I'm at it so remind me guys lol. They are scrapping my carbon door sills atm as they've dropped!

I also want to give under the bonnet a refurb. So get the rocker covers polished up as well as all the piping and intake polished. Then some carbon fibre bits too as I've already a APR carbon plate.

So yea that's what's happening atm. I don't think I'll go single for a long time. It's going to cost near enough the value of the car to go single properly and tbh I like OEM or as close to with tasteful mods as possible.

Any ideas I'm open to so feel free to share! :)

Wow went from a great day to a not so great day...

I think the first turbo just let go.. It doesn't spool properly till the second turbo hits and it is making a spooling noise far too early now in any gear. As if air is passing the fins or something.

If anyone can confirm I would appreciate it :(

Oh well that's another cost now!

make sure all vac pipes are on if not single turbo here you come

Yea checked all the piping. It looks like loads of oil has come out of the turbo/stock recirculating valve onto the turbo heat shields. I've taken the car off boost to the garage so once he's confirmed what's going on tomorrow I'll have to decide what to do. Don't really have the money to go single right now. Cheers for the advice though mate I appreciate it

Going to put a wanted thread up for some turbos I guess

  • 4 months later...

Just thought I'd update this.

So since the last update ages ago it's mostly been in the garage not getting fixed. I've had hybrids with upgraded internals built by turbo dynamics and fitted by a garage in cambridge and it's spent too much time there but to be honest I don't think they grasped how the supra worked and seemed to give up which is disappointing for everyone involved but that's life sometimes. Its now at SRD which I decided would be the only place to take it.

Lee immediately picked up quite a few issues with piping and hoses etc so I've asked him to sort it all out and get it back to OEM sequential operation and boosting correctly and we'll go from there with costs and additional jobs. If it's an easy fix then I'd like to add a few jobs to the car while it's there. I'll definitely be taking all the advice lee gives me. Straight away he pointed out the rad was still an NA rad which I had no idea about but luckily Abz had one he said I could have I just need to get it from a family member which is great news. So I'll be sending it down to SRD asap. I've also go some undertrays engine and bumper from SRD to be fitted.

After that I'd like to get the engine bay tidied up and crackle blacked maybe with some engine boxes. After that I'd be happy and definitely up for listening to what Lee suggests. I know it needs to have the drainage channel, where the boot joins the roof, sprayed as its got some surface rust and I hate any rust and I'd like to get the car detailed so that's on the list. Not to forget a wheel refurb!

Once all that's done I think I'll be happy for a while! I don't see myself going single as I'm quite happy with BPU power at the moment and I can't really warrant the cost right now anyway.

I did get to take it to wroxhall Abby and York for a friends wedding even though I didn't get to use it at full power or working right.

I hope that little updates enough and hopefully the poor girl will be back to full health soon :D

Cheers guys. To be honest I should have taken it to SRD straight away to get it BPUd when I first started getting stuff done that was the main mistake. I just didn't because of distance but it's well worth just taking it to SRD as it's clearly the best for a reason.

So within 2 days SRD have already let me know what they've found:

Intake pipes collapsing, exhaust valve is faulty and turbos are shot.

This is after supposedly being checked by the last garage and the turbos being rebuilt.... I'm pretty gutted to be honest but at least it's in safe hands now. So thanks again Lee

Oh and thanks to JamieP for letting me have his old turbos and related parts. i really appreciate it

Is it not worth asking for some recompense? Have you named the garage as that seems a bit rubbish.
