Scott
What the hell is going on with the BMI scores? They're absolutely full of crap. It's no wonder so many people have eating disorders and think they are overweight etc. Now, first of all.... no excuses, I'm a fat c**t but the info from this load of tripe just doesn't stack up. Ok so here's the figures, see if you can work this one out!! My Weight - 117kg My Height - 6'4.6" My BMI - 32.2 All fair enough. Then it did my fat %age using the voltage resistance system (resonably accurate I've been led to believe). Fat % - 30.6% Fat KG - 35.8kg Weight without fat - 81.2kg All fair enough again. So then it spouts out this drivvel..... To be at my upper ideal BMI (25) I would need to weigh 87kg. To be at my lower ideal BMI I would need to weigh 64kg. How the hell am I supposed to get down to 64kg if I currently weigh 81.2kg with 0% fat? IMO me at 87kg would be my ideal, ripped, fighting weight. Now, clearly I'm heavy boned. This isn't a pun, when I had the same amount of meat on me as a butchers pencil I weighed 14 stone. Surely someone needs to take a good look at this BMI calculation thing and make sense of it. Who on earth is 6'4, 10 stone and healthy? They must have the lightest bone structure on the planet and have next to no muscle.
j_jza80
Just forget about it and eat a burger But seriously, they are only a very rough guide. People differ too much to make a 'one size fits all' BMI.
Scott
Just forget about it and eat a burger But seriously, they are only a very rough guide. People differ too much to make a 'one size fits all' BMI. The same that everyone says though, that it's a rough guide. Surely a rough gudie to cover the UK average should actually fit the UK average? My Wife is 5'7, her BMI says she should be 9.3st to be upper ideal (25) she looks like death at 9st. Her lower BMI (Ideal) score says she should be 8. I don't know anyone who fits inside it's scope who is healthy.
binfieldx
why does any of it matter, if you look in shape who cares? Scales are just a number. Imagine if you dated a supermodel but for someone reason whenever she went on the scales she weighed 52 stone...wouldn't make a difference to any red blooded male
kitch79
I wouldn't take any notice of BMI results or graphs. Over 12 stone and 6 foot it puts u in the obese category or something ridiculous. Eat healthy, train hard, and as long as your happy how the results are turning out and see improvement you can ignore the BMI and scales, scales are evil! Anthony Joshua needs to lose loads of weight if using that ha.
Scott
Lets be clear on something here, I couldn't care less for myself personally. My point is that a lot of people do and they end up in serious trouble because of eaiting disorders etc. The Govm't and the NHS, etc, all put out MASSIVE campaigns to try and stamp out these disorders, yet on the other hand they are constantly banging on about a healthy BMI. I would not be healthy anything under the very upper end of my stated healthy BMI and even by it's own calculation it's impossible for me to hit the lower limit or even anywhere near it. Here's one for you, at 19 years old I was probably my fittest. I could lift weights with most men and I could run all day on a football field or basketball court. I looked like I didn't have a pick on me yet I was 14.5 stone. Pumping my figures into the BMI thing it says that I was overweight. How does that possibly help people out there who look at pictures of models and then weigh themselves in a massively flawed system? Does anyone here have a BMI under 20? According to the read up on it, 17 is the perfect BMI to have. I would need to lose all body fat and chop a leg off to get that! Edit: Found a picture as proof
Tricky-Ricky
Ya skinny git:p Just jealous, haven't been that slim since I was 40.
mc92
It's an estimate, and not a very good one since it doesn't take into account factors outside of weight and height. Body fat percentage is far better to go off, I believe ideal is 15-20% but it depends on age. That's the trouble with making a one-size fits all scale - nobody is the same, so there will always be people who are healthy and have the right amount of body fat, but don't fit on the scale for whatever reason. cered
Pay no attention to BMIs or your weighing scales. Also laugh at the people who say "I LOST 3LBS THIS WEEK!!!". If you want an accurate measurement of your body composition, monitor your height and weight monthly, also use body calipers to gauge your body's fat levels. If you're looking to lose weight, read this: http://liamrosen.com/fitness.html and then watch some videos on YouTube from The Hodge Twins (Hilarious but factually accurate) and UnderGround Wellness (Ideally from Sean, terrific nutrition and lifestyle advice) Source: Formerly 6ft and 103KG, now 6ft and 83KG with a fair whack of muscle
Havard
Nice pic Scott. I didn't have anything to arouse me this morning until that...!!
formatzero
I wouldn't worry about bmi readings, most people know when they are getting fat cos their breeks dont fit and they have to get a bigger pair:)

Scott
Nice pic Scott. I didn't have anything to arouse me this morning until that...!! Glad I could be of service, as long as it was me you were looking at and not my Niece I wouldn't worry about bmi readings, most people know when they are getting fat cos their breeks dont fit and they have to get a bigger pair:) To be honest, that wouldn't really help me. The waist of most of my clothes is massive because it's so hard to get anything to fit length wise. When I open my arms out with a shirt on it looks like I have wings and could jump from a plane
Graham1984
BMI is only useful if you don't do any exercise and have don't go to the gym IMO. I weight train a few times every week and work as a roofer- my BMI puts me at being extremely obese.
Scott
It says on the tin that 25 is the UK average. UK average what??? Hobo?
GazDoran
I'm 6'4" and around 108Kg....I agree that I also need to lose some weight, but no way in hell can I get down as low as you have quoted there without being hospitalized!!!! My ideal weight would be around 85-90Kg I reckon. Going back 10 years, when I used to go to the gym at least 3 times a week I was in great shape and weighed in at 15 stone! BMI = bollocks!!!
