rob.sherer
Hi all. I heard that there is a way of converting the supra to manual using a BMW gearbox. I was wondering if anyone here has done this and how much the parts needed to do this will cost and what parts will be needed to do this. Any help or guidance is highly appreciated Rob
j_jza80
Probably better looking on Driftworks. I have only heard of one person doing the swap, and they ended up going V160 because they were unhappy with it. Think I saw that on the Facebook sale group. Justin Bieber
From what i've seen, the bmw boxes tend to go on 2jz's in other cars rather than supra's, i can't actually think of anyone on here running a bmw box in a supra. I do wait to be proven wrong though
Mk4Gaz
I've heard of folk using the 6 speed box from a 350z over in the states, and I believe bell housing adaptors can be bought from there too
Benjy
Someone on here did the conversion and then promptly sold it as a project because it was, for want of a better phrase, shite.
Frank Bullitt
You mean the guy that broke the Blue Supra to put in the 350Z or another one?
j_jza80
You mean the guy that broke the Blue Supra to put in the 350Z or another one? No I don't think he means him. That 350z is being broken/sold at the moment.
Benjy
No, somebody tried the BMW conversion and had problems.
rob.sherer
Looks like it will have to be the v160 then. So many monies!!! Haha
Swampy442
Guy on Club Aristo has done the conversion on a Mk1 Aristo using a 535 diesel gearbox. Its by no means bolt on, but it is achievable.

skippyboyo1
i cant see the point, just bite the bullet and get a 6 speed oem box, All the ball ache is not worth the money saved IMO
rob.sherer
That's what i meant by my earlier post. How much for the conversion kit? (everything needed to make it a functioning 6 speed supra v160)
Big Supes
Don't pay over 3.5k. People are making up the prices as they go at the moment.
rob.sherer
Thats for the full kit? awesome! will start looking soon then!
T14PPA
Ive heard a few do the bmw conversion and i heard its better. Supra gearboxes are over priced in my opinion. You might spend £3000 and then the 20yr old gearbox dies. M3 gearboxes are easy to get hold of for £400-500 and are much smoother and can hold big power. May take more modifying to fit but i believe in the long run it will be better. Can you imagine the prices of the v161 in 5 years time
j_jza80
They won't go up any further now, the price of brand new gearboxes keeps the second hand prices where they are. Remember, by using the BMW box you need a lot of custom parts. If any of those fail, your car could be off the road for weeks. Personally, I would rather spend a bit more, get the proper thing, have off the shelf spares, and increase the value of my car. No brainer IMO
rob.sherer
http://aberdeen.craigslist.co.uk/ptd/5134766512.html legit or nah?
Tyson
That mileage is fantasy it's more likely done 170,000km
j_jza80
http://aberdeen.craigslist.co.uk/ptd/5134766512.html legit or nah? Maybe worth looking in to, but it's very risky. It is more than likely a scam, and if not, why is it so cheap? Could be faulty. Personally I don't think it's worth the risk, pay more for a known good one. crock
That was advertised in london a few months back, saying he was selling it from a recent family death and clearing out parts but would have to be posted from scotland it screams scam, However i recently picked up a 2nd hand v160 from a scotland for full conversion money and turns out the box is f#@k'd to put it nicely, and now struggling with contact with the seller I'd only buy from a trusted seller if spending this amount of cash or new from america
rob.sherer
yeah scam my scam alarm was ringing when i saw it hence why i posted it on here. Im guessing full conversions come up rarely and snatched up pretty quickly on here then.
j_jza80
Yep, and full conversions are usually around £4k.
