Chris Wilson
A fellow radio amateur has released a tiny transmitter attached to 2 small hydrogen filled balloons in Canada. Due to the marvels of digital low power transmission' and GPS tracking devices, being a few grammes these days, you can track it by radio or on line. Quite remarkable just how fast and far it's gone already! The site below tracks it in real time, save at night when it shuts its own transmitter down to save battery power. During the day solar cells re-charge it as it floats along! http://qrp-labs.com/ultimate3/ve3kcl-balloons/ve3kcl-s4 This morning hams as far away as New Zealand and Australia were picking up its co-ordinates and call sign directly from its tiny transmitter. I have received its signals from its launch, and its signals are excellent strength. I wonder when it will land / fail / pop?

Dnk
Do you know the height they're at ? Ignore that 8380 metres or 27500 ft
Thorin
Ever wondered where those party balloons might travel? To the Norwegian Sea! 10,288km and almost 6 days later. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for his next balloon flight.
Chris Wilson
Yep, a good flight, it hit the water earlier today. Quite impressive, IMHO
