Warning light, no codes

On my NA, I'm getting this warning light which i'm sure signifies an overheating cat. I was under the assumption that my O2 sensors were on the way out because I'm have some performance issues and I'm often running a bit rich as well as having high fuel consumption. All those signs lead to a common problem - aged O2 sensors (although it could be anything I suppose)!

The diagnostics manual says that there are codes for O2 sensors, but I don't have any stored codes.

Does this warning light store codes?

I get this warning light after giving the throttle a hard time for about 10 seconds and then it disappears. The car doesn't feel any different afterwards.

Here are the symptons of my issues:

- Bad fuel consumption

- Running rich

- Bit bouncy when easing off the throttle when driving in first/second gear

- Taking foot completely off the accelerator in any gear or speed results in a slight jolt.

- Can often be difficult to pull away quickly in first gear.

Last time I had these issues it was a vacuum leak, I suppose I should also check for this. But I never got that warning light for that.

Any thoughts?

Disconnect the CAT temp sensor and see what happens. If the ecu thinks the cat is overheating it may well be mapped to do odd things. I doubt it *IS* actually overheating, but a retarded ignition or an engine fault dumping a LOT of excess fuel into it, or conversely, making it run very weak could overheat it, as would using leaded fuel.
