j_jza80
Having bought a TRD LSD for my car, I have also obtained both a manual and an auto small case differential, so I have the choice of building it into either. Now, I know that several forum members have used auto diffs in their manual cars in order to make them accelerate more quickly, but has anyone used a manual diff in an auto? I realize that it will have a negative effect on acceleration, but as this will be part of a single turbo conversion with a hopeful 550hp, will the effects be noticeable? The reasons I am considering it is because at some point I would quite like to take my car above 200mph (who doesn't? ), and improved cruise fuel economy. As my car is a daily, it would be a bonus. Attached below are screengrabs of the forum 'wheel size and gearing calculator' (thanks Homer! ), the first showing stock tiptonic gearing with my wheels, the second showing the tiptronic/auto gearbox with a small case 6 speed diff. Scott
Are the casings actually different? I thought the ratio came from the diff itself, so you would need to check the ratio of the TRD variant. Unless I'm missing something?
j_jza80
No, the casings are the same as is the diff. The terminology is a bit beyond me, but IIRC it is the pinion gear on the diff input shaft that determines the ratio. Hopefully someone informed will be along shortly!
