An interesting day today and one I ma not very happy about.

The day started normal and driving to work I ended up with a 'little' situation. I will let the pics do the talking.....

Thankfully I am ok but I am absolutely gutted. Watching it go up in flames was hard!

Fortunately I think the engine will be ok.

As you can see it hasnt affected the front to much so I should be able to remove the engine when I get it back for salvage. I suspect a fuel line has split and spat fuel onto the exhaust and up she went and once the tank took hold there was no real stopping it. Certainly an interesting experience thats for sure!

Insurance will cover it so I will do alright once I part it out but I think my High HorsePower days are over for a while.

I wont have this amount of money invested in a car for while I think. Will be bricks and mortar next time.

As for putting the engine in something else.... that also wont be happening. The modifying rules over here are stupid and the car would need engineering which is a very costly exercise and ALOT of hassle and after the amount of effort I put into this one I dont have the heart to do it again at the moment.

  • 2 weeks later...

Went and checked the car over yesterday to make sure salvage was viable and very happy with what I saw...

No damage at all, just covered in soot.

Insurance is paying out and the car is due to be delivered to me tomorrow. I also spoke to my tuner and he said if I chuck it in another V8 shell, he will just need to load my tune and it would be good to go again.... I'm in no rush to sell the engine so we will see what happens....

Ouch, cant be nice :(

EDIT: should have been a sad face not smiley, sorry matey :(

lol.. didnt see the happy face but tbh.. its not looking too bad. Got it delivered back home tonight and I have been able to have my first good look around it. The fire was very localised to the fuel tank area. The flames from the day were mostly the plastic tray liner melting and dripping everywhere. Think I should be able to get about 95% of the running gear out to sell on so I will do ok out of it.

the inside has seen better days though....

Not that I think you would... but whatever you do don't connect a battery up on that to test anything!

Poor car, luckily it does look like the expensive bit will go again... looking forward to reading of it's resurrection! :)

Oh and be careful what you breathe in whilst stripping it down.. there will be some nasty things lurking in there.
