Dnk
After chatting with a mate who recently had a breakdown in the south of France i'm a tad concerned with what you actually get for your cash His was a simple fix in the end but was told if it wasn't fixable the vehicle would be written off in France due to it costing more to get the vehicle home than its worth. This got him rather concerned as to who decides what your vehicle is worth, his motorhome is over £20k easily This was with the AA this year
Dnk
Just used the online chat on Eurobreakdown cover Thanks, give us 1 minute to accept the chat... You are now chatting with Mark Andrew: Vehicle repatriation listed as unlimited ? but is it limited to the vehicles value and if so who decides what its worth ? Mark: Good Morning Andrew: hi Mark: That decision will be made by the service provider Allianz Global Assistance Andrew: so it is limited to whatever they say your vehicle is worth ? Andrew: that's rather worrying, thanks for your reply Mark: Yes to the current market value of the vehicle Andrew: thanks Andrew: what happens if they deem it not viable to return it to the UK Andrew: they will pay market value for the vehicle to me Mark: If the vehicle is beyond economical repair they will assist with the customs requirements to dispose of the vehicle Mark: Or Allianz can arrange and pay for you to return to collect the vehicle once a repair has been completed abroad Mark: The benefits towards this are £400 on the Silver Policy and £600 on the Gold Policy

Dnk
My mate was not impressed with the AA Apparently he got towed off the Autoroute by a private comp and that was 2000 euro that he had to pay there and then. Then claim it back from the AA who then would only pay 1400 euro towards the tow charge to a garage that hadn't got a clue where to start on his motor home. Then they said to have a secondry tow to another garage that might be able to fix it but at his expense. Took 2 days for the AA guy to turn up
MATT RR
very concerning that! It should not even be an option to write off a vehicle due to cost of recovery or breakdown, if you pay for recovery that is what you should get regardless of cost, it takes no account for aesthetic and sentimental value of a vehicle! thanks for flagging this! Dnk
My concern is what do you do if the worst should happen ? Seems like your screwed if its down to their say so on what your car is worth and as to whether they will bring it back. Takes the piss in my book, read all the policies and there all the same by the look of it. The unlimited bit appears to be b/s and your cover is only up too what they say the value of your car is http://www.eurobreakdown.com/?r=9&gclid=CLa_i73SnscCFSvItAodWegOJQ Also to anyone that didn't know you have to use the SOS phones on the auto routes and not your breakdown company
Abz
That is very concerning indeed, it seems it is cheaper to stay in the country for a few days and getting it fixed there is cheaper than a tow back! €2,000 just to be taken off the autoroute is quite a lot, though I guess you have no other choice then.
