Big Mark
In need of some new suspension forks for my mountain bike as current ones are WAY past their best. RST Mozo Pro W. Forks pretty much bottom out and/or bounce so need to go. Needs to be Ahead, 1 1/8", 200mm steerer with v-brake mounts. As a heavy guy do I need air (pumped up lots) or spring shocks or doesn't it matter? Looking for something under £100 as the bike is only used occasionally on nice days for exercise or to pop to the shop mostly. Seen these but are they too cheap and cheerful: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400939164607?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&var=670482028958&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Like these (especially the remote lock out) but too expensive: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130818344863?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Any cyclists out there recommend me some good value new forks that will fit? a98pmalcolm
I've fitted those Suntor forks onto loads of my customers bikes for fork replacement and there a great budget fork. Suntor have really upped there game the past 5 years and there quality is fab.. During there review on there products over the years they have gone to the big expensive forks too.. If your using your bike to go from A to B nothing to extreme, these will do you well..

Big Mark
So do I choose the 8inch length one of the 10inch Ahead? My current fork steerer is just under 8 inches and says Ahead, do I just go the 10" and cut it down?
Tsia
Either will be fine in that case. Make sure you keep the spacers (you may need more once you've fitted & cut the forks anyway, whilst you fine-tune the height of the stem)
a98pmalcolm
go 10" and cut down just in case.. dont forget to swap the crown race over

a98pmalcolm
That's a point. You either need to be a surgeon with a screwdriver or just get a new one Hammer and narrow screwdriver fella few taps around will get it off.. Its getting them on without the correct tool is the issue without damaging the bearing surface can be tricky
Big Mark
Didn't even realise that I needed this part. Easily got it off tho, just loosened the 2 allen bolts on my crown that holds the steerer in and gave the steerer a bang on the ground, off popped the crown race. That's weird - I've never seen one come off that easily.
Big Mark
go 10" and cut down just in case.. dont forget to swap the crown race over Ordered the 8inch ones before I saw your post. Arrived just before the weekend and are perfect length but the top few inches of the steerer is threaded whereas my old forks are all smooth. Are these usable? I've trial fitted them and they seem to fit but they're missing the bit in the steerer where the Ahead bolt clamps down into, so have ordered one of these from ebay as I can't tighten thing up. Will it be ok or do I need forks with a completely smooth steerer?
Tsia
Have you got a picture inside the steerer tube? If you can get the star nut down it it should be fine still. If you can't get it past the thread, then you have a problem.
