Nic
Can you tell where the noise is coming from, eg. engine bay, rear, gearbox, drivetrain, wheel etc.?
David P
Can you tell where the noise is coming from, eg. engine bay, rear, gearbox, drivetrain, wheel etc.? or girlfriend?
James
or girlfriend? As Nic mentioned, try and identify where the noise is coming from. Could be the diff, gearbox, even the wheel bearing (you may just not be hearing it when on throttle ).
raddys
I'd say it's coming from the front, bit hard to tell though, it's fine when I drive normally, it only happens occasionally when I accelerate hard in 1st then let off quick (as I'm decelerating I can hear it) and as the engine speed slows so does the whine :/
raddys
So I doubt its a wheel bearing, I'm thinking box related, but what it is I have no idea.. has anyone else experienced some whine when letting off harshly

Swampy442
What do you mean higher speeds in first?
listy
A video would help. Other than that, as has been said I'd be wondering about clutch release bearing, possibly check the crank pulley, aux belt tensioner is another one known to need replacing as these cars get older. Abz
Just confirm this noise only ever happens in first gear and not in any other gear? Does the noise go away when you change to 2nd? Also is this the stock W58 or an R154?
imi
Maybe you got duped and ended up with a Twin Turbo
