stevie_b
When I bought my cmax it only came with one key (like the photo attached). I'd like to get another fully-functioning key for it. I've read elsewhere that there's 3 parts to this: getting the key cut (should be straightforward at a decent locksmiths), coding the lock/unlock buttons to the car (DIY I think: turning the key in the ignition 3 or 4 times), and coding the immobiliser to it. It's the last bit that's potentially tricky/expensive. Do I need to go to a Ford main stealer to get the immobiliser bit programmed, or would an auto electrician be OK? Anyone got any experience of this? Probably answers my question, but thought I'd ask here too: http://www.cmaxownersclub.co.uk/forum/general-35/spare-key-fob-10949/ Edited August 6, 2015 by stevie_b (see edit history)
Scott
Generally the immobiliser bit doesn't come with those keys. I got a shell a while back to replace the casing on my current key. The expensive bit is always getting that immobiliser thing though, I couldn't find any way around it.
stevie_b
Generally the immobiliser bit doesn't come with those keys. Ah, do you mean the key that I've got doesn't immobilise the car at all?
Scott
Ah, do you mean the key that I've got doesn't immobilise the car at all? Oh no sorry, the spare blanks/shells. The one I got didn't come with the little crystal immobiliser. They can be seen quite easily if you split the casing where you would replace the battery. Benjy
In order to program that, you need an auto locksmith. I'd expect to pay up to £150 mate. Edit: that'd be including supplying you a key and cutting the blade.

stevie_b
Got a key for £125 from an auto locksmith. Not cheap but I like to have a spare.
