Guest stadiumgarage
Please can anyone help. The air con in my 1994 normally aspiated supra was working but the bearings were noisy. I had the compressor reconditioned then put back on and the same amount of gas put back in. Now the compressor comes on and runs for a few seconds then stops and the air con light flashes. I have checked the codes and no fault is showing. Can anyone suggest any help? Thanks
Scott
Are you checking the aircon codes or the ECU codes?
Scooter
There is a valve in the pipe work behind the dash that can fail creating a blockage. with no flow the compressor raises the pressure above a safe level and cuts out. Did you have the system checked by a man with the pressure reading equipment?
rider
There is a valve in the pipe work behind the dash that can fail creating a blockage. with no flow the compressor raises the pressure above a safe level and cuts out. Did you have the system checked by a man with the pressure reading equipment? There is a low pressure cut off to prevent the suction side pulling a vacuum which would potentially allow air and moisture to enter the system. A system at standstill on a normal day will have a static pressure of around 70psi. The compressor will suck this down to around 17psi on the inlet on a charged system. If the gas level is low then this can fall below 0 psi and the LP cut off will activate. So, I'd suggest check your sight glass in the few seconds the compressor runs. No liquid - you should see bubbles in the liquid - then chances are the system needs a top up.
Chris Wilson
I am no A/C expert, but the expansion valve may be bunged up, the compressor will load up high enough to trip the safety valve and disengage the clutch. Don't worry about it summer, such as it was, is now over
mwilkinson
I'm with Scott and Chris on this. Seems like the expansion valve to me.
