Engine Strut Brace Vibration

Two-Two

Recommended Posts

Just fitted a strut brace to the Supra and noticed that the brace touches both the engine block and air intake hose. Driving the car afterwards exhibits low speed vibration through pedals and steering wheel. Are these facts related and should I get spacers or washers to raise it above engine?

Thanks

I have an NA and had one of these (as have a few others) and you need to either mount an extra nut or some washers under the brace on the suspension top mount parts.

Not sure why it should affect a turbo but a lot of people have had the same problem.

that brace is going to have zero effect on the handling, if it doesn't fit I'd bin it.

^^^ as above. The design of that brace is probably the worst I've seen, it won't be doing a thing. Look at the Carbing strut braces if you want to see what a decent road use brace looks like, or the stunning carbon ones on the Tom's Castrol Supra for a properly effective race brace.

Some good advice here, take the bar off the mounts and instead tie a piece of strong string between them. The torsional rigidity increase will remain similar, the string won't vibrate annoyingly on stuff it's touching.

LOL :rlol:

Thanks for the feedback :D. I guess that a sub £50 price-tag should have been a warning!

The strut itself seems pretty solidly built. What is it that the Carbing models have that mine doesn't? Is it construction or design that is the key?
