afennell
Me again! Can anyone explain the wheel sizes needed to fit over the UK or brembo/AP big brakes? AP Racing have said that a 9J x 18" with ET45 will clear them... I have found a set of wheels with the same offset and diameter but only 7.5J wide Will this make any difference? Could anyone with UK spec/Brembo/AP/KAD brakes please help me by telling the sizes of your rims? Many Thanks in advance
Gaz Walker
Simply 7.5" just isn't wide enough. The smallest I've seen fit over a UK caliper is an 8" wide. Spoke design on the wheel also has a lot to do with it. Are you looking for big brakes, a change of wheels, or both? Regards, Gaz.
Nic
The attached diagram is a cross section of the UK spec caliper/hub, this will help you check whether a particular wheel will clear the caliper. Here is a chart/diagram to show Brembo clearances.... http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/Performance/brembo_fit.htm and the same thing for AP Racing brake kits http://apracing.com/roadcar/brakekit/wheel.htm
Nick
Print out the templates, stick them onto some card, get one of the wheels and check to see if they fit. Other than having the actual brakes and the wheels there's no way to tell for *sure*, too many variables....
nickyboy
There was a thread a while ago when lots of people with UK brakes posted up their wheel types... Don't know if it's still accessible but I had a copy of it somewhere...
afennell
Thanks for the help, this site is going to be sick of hearing about. I'm fitting uk brakes, but tested my rims last weekend and there's no chance even with a spacer. just need some nice wheels at a good price, thought i had found some
nickyboy
I'm no expert and I'm sure someone will advise to the contrary, but I'd steer clear of spacers. My cousin had some and his wheel nuts sheared off when on the motorway - less than ideal.
