What the hell are these?

To cut a long story short, our neighbours are bonkers and will complain at any given opportunity (starting my Supra, placement of wheelie bins, parking etc) and they've had 3 of these things put up around the outside of their house, one facing our front door, one facing our back door and one facing our upstairs landing window. Anyone know if it's some kind of secret CCTV/monitoring device, or am I paranoid? :D

Although it is hard to tell, they look like they have a untidy bead of silicone around the outside. This would suggest electronics of some kind.

I'd look around the surrounding area for signs of brick dust, which would almost certainly mean a cable has been passed through the wall.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Feng-Shui-I-Ching-Bagua-Chinese-Mirror-Concave-12cm-Convex-12cm-/121627116950

It's a mirror... comes in either concave or convex, usually mounted to the wall with a hook - but as j_jza80 says it looks like it's been hung and sealed - it could have a camera of sorts behind it.. unlikely, but entirely possible.

However, this should give you an idea of how much they like you.. "A convex bagua mirror is used in the feng shui applications when the negative energy outside your home needs to be neutralized by being absorbed. Basically, a convex design of a mirror will bounce back the negative feng shui energy to it's sender."

LMAO :)

Some people have nothing better to do in their own lives they have to interfere with their Neighbours. Ill be so glad when I move to my new house as its not overlooked and detached, I won't have to play the 'guess the TV show' from next doors TV every night any more lol

Thanks so much guys, I knew something was up with it as soon as I noticed the silicon. Gonna check it out tonight once they go to bed ;) if there is evidence of brick dust, wiring or otherwise electronic equipment what should I do? I don't want a load of cameras pointing at my mums house, especially when she's here alone!

Interesting conundrum, on the hypothesis that there is a recording device inside behind a mirror on a wall, how would I approach disabling such a thing?

Hypothetically, without getting recorded by said device the options are somewhat limited.. and of course this is in the public domain, damaging it is out of the question.

But if one of the local kids where to give it a quick pop with an air rifle in the dead of night from a angle that couldn't be recorded - it would be a terrible, terrible shame.

Kids these days

Go give your neighbors some hugs and loving to try and break the ice for them being so annoying towards you :p maybe there get to like you and not pester you about little annoying things.

But they look like mirrors to me.

they probably just silicone them to the wall. as i cant see a camera there?

You could just ask them what they are?

Curious. Could it be that the "silicone" is something like Gripfill as a bodged-but-easy way of fixing it to the wall? No way of knowing without taking a very close look.

And that is probably the most likely answer. But better safe than sorry :D

Are your neighbours Chinese? (Or Oriental?)

I think they're Russian or Polish, not 100% sure though!

I don't think asking them would work at all! Seriously mate you don't understand how loopy they are, they put in an official police noise complaint about my mum's wind chimes in the back garden, police did absolutely nothing, 3 weeks later they have wind chimes in their back garden!
