Change URL in a post, old one is still used??

I just made a typo in a post to this forum, and edited it after sending the post, to reflect the correct URL. But when I click on tyhe link in the amended post Firefox still goes to the original URL. I know there's a good reason for it, but i don't know what it is. I think if someone else, on another PC accesses the amended URL all is fine, but for some reason MY OWN PC still retains the original URL?

Is there a way of me clicking on the corrected URL in my post to make Firefox access the correct one? Thanks.

Sounds a bit odd. Here's what I suggest:

0.5) Check that in your edited post, you changed the target URL, not just the displayed text (which by default is often the URL you first used)

1) If you haven't verified this already, check that other people on other computers get taken to the correct URL when they click on your post. I can be your tester for this if you want. You said you think it'll work OK for others. Best to be certain when debugging these things.

2) If it works OK for other people, try typing the URL manually into your web browser (or if it's long and complicated, copy it into Notepad to ensure any formatting is stripped off, then copy it from Notepad into your browser), independent of this forum.

It smells like a browser caching issue, but browsers cache content for a given URL. If you supply a different URL (which is what you've done by changing the URL of the link), the cache for the previous URL shouldn't be used.

Post #6 the /814.html link is the one I changed, it still redirects to http://www.gatesgarth.com/more814/814.html which was what I wrongly posted initially. Typing it into a new browser window works fine. I have had this issue before when editing URL's that i have already posted to the forum. Thanks Steve!

I think your problem is step 0.5 of my post. The text in your post says "http://www.chriswilson.tv/more814/814.html", but when you hover the mouse over the link, the link's target is "http://www.gatesgarth.com/more814/814.html". If you edit the post again, and change the link's target as well as the displayed text, you should be OK.

Once a link in a post on any forum has been created, the text shown and the target URL are completely independent of each other. You can edit one, and it won't change the other.
