raddys
Does this look bad, the seller said it's only the petrol tank cover but my mechanic reckons it's the boot floor?? Any help much appreciated
tony tt
If that's the state of the tank cover of be very wary about the rest of the underside of the car. It's not the boot floor I don't think no looks like that petrol tank cover. Is it a UK car or import?
Scooter
it is 'only' the tank cover but as it's pretty much as bad as they come still attached to the car, I'd be having a very good look at the fuel and brake lines and general rear subframe corrosion. raddys
Import, rest of the car looks very clean
Scooter
Well you can satisfy yourself/your mechanic by taking out the spare and the boot tools and polystyrene pieces and having a good look around the boot but doubt you'll find any rust, certainly nothing like that. Is it a private sale?
j_jza80
You MUST get the car up on a ramp, and have a good look around underneath. It is possible that the rest is okay, as the tank covers can rot from the inside out, but it could also be an indicator of the general condition. safcdixon
Thats fairly common these days, the rear corners near behind the spats is a key area to check
Dnk
Also check the cross member that the rad sits on, they're prone to rotting as well. What's the tailgate like around the glass, fold the seal up as they rot there too. Definitely needs to go on a ramp for a proper inspection, i'd do that on any supra now if i were looking at buying

Morpheus
Wow, looks like my old 1986 D reg' Mk3! The rear wishbones looked like Weetabix as well. Probably just as nutritious too!
