Sanya
Hi guys, I seek for an advise for someone who have done this before. I am planning a trip to Italy next year and am trying to see what is the best route and what can I see along the way. We are planning to camp out on the way and to see as much nice places as it is reasonably practicable. Please could any one give some suggestions on where to stop and what to see? Small detours from the rout are ok (but not massive) Also could anyone who have done this journey before advise on the route through the mountains (please see the pics) is it all as per pic 2 or there are some "range rover" type of parts? Please advise. Thank you, Alek.
Dnk
How far down Italy are you planning to go ? What pics ? http://www.swide.com/food-travel/travelling-tips/best-roads-to-drive-in-italy-stelvio-pass-to-amalfi-coast/2013/07/
j_jza80
The Stelvio pass would be a must for me, and then you can drive down in to Italy via lake Como and lake Garda. That would be one of the most picturesque drives possible.
AJI
Anything in particular that is attracting you to Italy? For a euro trip places like Austria, Germany, France are seen by many to be more attractive. The main places in Italy such as Pisa, Venice, Rome etc. for us at least were a bit of a let-down. I guess we went with too much expectation. But if you've got Italy as a 'must do' then I would advise to keep to the Alpine areas, they are quite attractive. Otherwise you really notice a country of austerity at work (or not as the case may be!).
j_jza80
Italy is beautiful, have been to the north a couple of times and ranks among the most scenic I've been to.
Supragal
I wouldn't bother with the main cities (unless that's your bag) If you're going far enough down, hit up Tuscany and surrounding areas. Lucca is worth it. Cinque Terra. Lakes up the top too. Italy is all about scenery and gelato. Oh and steak with Porcini muschrooms, if you time it right. Unless you're into art and history and crap, then the cities might be of interest.
