hi guys got a Samsung S5 love the phone but last week kept getting update things on the front screen , ignored it for a while but then decided to do it just to get rid of the notice , but it changed the whole look of the phone , put up with it now for a week but its not very good .

my question is if I reset it to factory settings will I lose all my contacts in my sim memory or texts in in the middle of .

any help appreciated

Your contacts can be moved onto the sim card or sync'd with your Google account, this will make them easy to restore if you roll the phone back to an earlier android version. I know HTC have there own transfer app which allows you to save all your messages, but these are usually used when upgrading your phone. But it might be possible to do a data transfer to your old phone (of all your contacts, messages, pictures, videos etc) then reset your current phone then transfer everything back again. But of a faff to do though. Stopping the OTA update notifications is harder and requires rooting the phone: http://www.androidayos.com/2014/11/10/disable-block-ota-update-on-samsung-galaxy-s5/

Sync contacts with google first.

export the contacts to a vcard and save off the phone as a backup... just in case! Text messages can be done with an app.. i think there a few free ones on the market.

Reset and connect to google. COntacts/apps etc should auto download when you sign into google. Its not instant though. If not place your vcard backup on the phone and import contacts that way.

You can turn off the auto check for OTA updates. you dont need to root to do that at all. settings>about phone> software update? untick auto update.
