Nick
It's on the BBC too: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4221296.stm "More than half the fuel used in the UK bears little or no fuel duty at all... so seeking to address the problem of high oil prices through road fuel duty alone would do nothing for the majority of consumers." Sounds like they're including aviation and agricultural fuel in their figures which isn't exactly relevent to the protest ! Hopefully people will take a leaf from the French and stand their ground this time. Of course with the new 'anti-terror' laws the Government introduced to prevent a repeat of 2000 means things could get ugly... Hopefully Blair won't start going on about the Emergency Services being deprived of fuel, which never happened the first time but the public fell for it. Whenever I say the government control the media, so some things you read will be twisted in some way, people claim I'm a conspracy theorist, some people even laugh, why does it fit the facts so perfectly? The general public are sheep, they think what they're told to think - we need to think outside the box!!
JohnK
The 2000 protest affected me really badly, my nan had just died and we were trying to make all the arangments for the funeral and her affairs which involved a lot of travel. Despite that I was still 100% behind it and will be this time too.
toyotasuprauk
Good to hear it! The 2000 protests affected so many, I remember on the news there were cars dumped everywhere that had run out of fuel. Petrol shouldn't really be more than about 70p a litre, even that's expensive really.

I think the David Kelly fiasco proved the BBC can't be trusted, poor b*stard was thrown to the wolves.... The problem is people give in too easily. Pete
My main concern is that some of my key staff travel long distances to work. If they can't get in they'll have to work from home - but this doesn't help communication. We don't have the luxury of IP phones to divert anywhere in the world. Our customers will have similar problems with people not wanting to order. Our couriers won't be able send goods. In short our business will suffer along with all the others. Last time it only lasted about a week. I can *just* survive a week on a full tank of petrol, maybe two car sharing with the missus. Gonna go fill up the canisters tonight anyway just in case. I wonder how long it'd go on for this time? Will the law let it happen or are we looking at swift unjust arrests followed by rioting? I feel uncomfortable thinking about it. It's going to be very interesting to see what happens when we actually do run out of oil.
JohnK
In short our business will suffer along with all the others I do feel for anyone in this position, after all the majority work to live. However this shold put even more pressure on the government. Will the law let it happen I seem to remember they passed some new laws after last time to try and stop this sort of thing. tbourner
Read betwen the lines people! Could go for a large majority of news these days!! I seem to remember they passed some new laws after last time to try and stop this sort of thing. I think it was to prevent them blocking the refinery exits - A go slow of 10mph on the motorways is still legal AFAIK.
