Na auto pathetically slow

Cheers Acton that's cleared that up perfectly.

No problem :) I bought my NA auto last month and it is pretty slow compared to my fiesta ST. Combination of quite a heavy car and long gearing on the box. It looks great, just doesn't go as great as it looks!

The OD button should never flash unless there's a problem. Check for codes. OD on = no light upto 4th. OD off = solid light. It does not lower gearing, the highest gear will be third.

This is correct, should not flash.

Flashing OD may give code 42, speed sensor, either sensor dodgy or usually a rubbish speedo converter, check the codes.

This means your overdrive is on. This lowers the gearing - good for the motorway. Switch it off and the light will stay on constantly. You may also find its a bit more responsive

No it does *NOT* necessarily mean the O/D is engaged. Nor, if it were engaged, would it lower the gearing, it would raise it...

Deffo check it, granted they aren't the fastest things out there but I regularly drive around with a mate in tow in his standard Impreza WRX...he obviously keeps up with me but he said himself that he's foot flat to do so.....you should be able to see a 320d off

Theres nowt embarrassing about owning a N/A, the car in question must be buggered surely or stuck in 2nd. When I first got my N/A I was genuinely surprised how quick it would go over 100 MPH no problem so much so I bought a sat nav to check the speedo accuracy and it was spot on. I've owned a tuned Nissan SX200 S13 and a standard SX200 S14 my N/A Supra is quicker than either of these.Only mod I have is a cat back JSR stainless exhaust everything else is standard as far as I know anyway and don't forget back in 93 220 bhp was a lot from a 3 LTR engine when people were still raving about Fords 2.8 Injection Capri with 160 bhp and not forgetting the BMW 840 4 LTR V8 with 200 bhp.

Times moved on from then but the Supra N/A can still frighten some so called sports cars.

An S14a 200SX is quicker than an NA Supra. And in 1993, people were not raving about the Capri, it had been out of production for ages and had been Surpassed. Even the 1.6l Civic VTi had 160hp then! :D

The BMW 840 wasn't sold then, it was the 850i. Both had far more than 200hp.

And even stock TT Supras struggle against the newest generation of hot hatches, any hot hatch from the MKV Golf GTi on would beat an NA Supra in a straight line, and demolish it in the corners.

No, there is nothing embarassing about owning an NA SUpra. They are great cars in their own right, and are incredibly tough. But they are not fast by todays standards at all. Even a boggo BMW 325D will kill an NA Supra.

Well mate I beg to differ. The BMW 840C was built from mid 1993 to late 1995 then sold with the 4.4 ltr engine.

Last Capri built Dec 1986 so still a good few around in the early nineties. :)

Having had a manual S14 with plans to buy a S15 or a Z350 following your logic would not buying a N/A auto be a great backward step then ?

Maybe I am lucky with my car and have something special, a visit to a reliable rolling road might be in order to measure its power perhaps.

Okay, it was just available in '93. But it still had 280+ hp.

Performance wise, I would not buy an NA Supra over a turbo S15. The s15 is much quicker than the S14a, it does 0-60 in around 5.5 seconds IIRC. I would guess an NA Auto would do it in around 7-8 seconds. But the Nissans are not as well built as the Supra, and don't look as good. The Supra also has much greater tuning potential, and the gearbox in the S15 isn't very strong. The Supra also has a much nicer sounding engine.

The main reason I sold my manual NA Supra is that it was an expensive car to run for the performance it gave. This will be even more so in an NA auto.
