Na auto pathetically slow

OK guys, I've had this car for a few weeks now, after getting my brakes, suspension and rattles in the dash sorted out I took it out last night for a roll around. I've come to a conclusion thought, it's hideously slow! My 320d touring would not only trounce it but pull it over the finish line in a race to help it out. Is this generally the case with NA autos? I'm going to have a look at the rotor arm and dizzy later (had many vauxhalls with similar issue). Is there anything else I can look at to check. The car has been recently serviced, new plugs, belts, second hand box fitted (all of this by previous owner so not sure what it was like previously).

Got a feeling the engine is going to need a compression test. Seem to remember my old NA coming out at about 185 per cylinder. On a dyno it only came out at about 175 Bhp iirc.

They are not quick cars in comparison to most now. You have to remember the age of these cars. A lot of cars now push 180 - 200 Bhp without even trying.

Plus... Overdrive flashes when driving normally.

This means your overdrive is on. This lowers the gearing - good for the motorway. Switch it off and the light will stay on constantly. You may also find its a bit more responsive
