Acton
'93 j-spec auto N/A I've noticed over the last couple of days that when my engine has been running for a while, I get a really noticeable wirring noise when I turn the wheel but also driving in a straight line and accelerating I get the same buzzy/ wirring noise. The level of fluid was fine. Am I going to need a new pump?
rider
The PS fluid should be a nice and clean. I had a noticeable notchiness in my power steering and the oil smelt a bit off so a change and all was well. Draw a bit of oil out and check it looks and smells good as a change out would be the cheapest solution to any problem.
Acton
I'll drain and refill next week then. Keep my fingers crossed that helps
Chris Wilson
Take the reservoir off and wash it out *WELL* with petrol or brake cleaner. Then blow out with compressed air and wash out again. There's a nylon gauze as a filter near the bottom of it . DO NOT POKE AT IT, you'll easily puncture it!! They clog up with sediment and the pump cavitates and makes a noise such as you describe. Similarly if the suction hose from pump to reservoir is hard and leaky, or the O ring on the pipe adaptor to the pump body is hard, the pump can draw air and make a noise. Either situation will slowly erode the pump body and vanes, making a rebuild very costly. So it needs fixing ASAP.

I've stopped using the car as soon as it started, so I don't exacerbate the problem until I find a solution. I will give this a go at the weekend. Thank you
