berg
Got a whifbitz alloy radiator to fit so im just wondering where the best place to mount a gearbox cooler is? Should it be mounted to the side under where the indicator sits in the bumper so the air gets through to it? Also is it worth getting one of the gearbox coolers that have the fan built in or are they not really worth bothering with?
Benjy
Wouldn't worry too much about the one with a fan. Mishimoto do a brilliant little kit. Relatively cheap too!
berg
Yep thats the one im going to buy, ill just get it without fan Any ideas on best mounting place?
Big Mark
I've just brought a Mishimoto X-Line rad and a pair of transmission coolers. Can't remember which but it was one of the two below, but at a slightly better price.

Big Mark
Part-box? I've not mounted mine yet. When I take my rad out I want to change all my pullies and belt at the same time but have heard it can be a nightmare to get the bolts undone so am putting it off for a bit longer as may need the use of an impact driver with serious oomph. But my plan is to either attach them to the rad, or have them in front of each other in the off side duct (opposite side to the SMIC) or one there and one on rad. Won't know until I do it I guess. I couldnt see them on part box, ive been looking at them on a different site Got polished pulleys for mine as twin fans will be fitted same time, along with a load of other shiny goodies to finish off my engine bay
Big Mark
I messaged part box direct through forum. Richie_k83 I'm still considering twin electric fans as think I've sorted the neatest way to wire them in. http://www.revotec.com/acatalog/Electronic-Fan-Controller-Threaded-Fitting.html I quite fancy a pair of Kenlowe Heavy Duty fans as these are about as good as it gets but not cheap so will see. How are you going to get the pulleys off? I've heard they require a serious amount of welly to get the bolts/nuts loose. Maybe we should do both cars at the same time one weekend? That looks pretty good, the whifbitz fans have the optional extra for a fan controlled relay which screws into the radiator, thats what ive gone for Ill be using my mates sealey gun, its rated to 450nm so will do the job, i used it on my last supra and all pulleys came off fine, crank pulley took a little extra but it came off no problems Ill be fitting all mine starting tuesday next week as i have some time off work so if youre free pop up, if not you can try this impact gun Auto box coolers fix on the the ax rad mate, so it would be ac rad auto box coolers then rad ect, I recomend you use least 1 on your car Cheers mate
Big Mark
I won't be ready by next week. As got to decide on what I'm doing about fans first, but I'll pop by and have see how it's going after work if that's ok. I've heard that a high powered impact driver is the way to get them off. Mine hasn't got enough power.
mattdavies
I would suggest installing the cooler in some bracketry in the side pod if you don't have a SMIC, there is already a lot of heat exchangers in the main mouth and therefore this will all have an effect on the temperature of the air hitting the Radiator
Big Mark
Agreed. Even with an SMIC the cooler(s) can be mounted on the passenger side and get a good air flow without blocking anything.
Rob W
When I changed my front crank pulley the other month I done the other aux pulleys and they came off no probs. I held the pulleys with the old belt and used our smaller snap-on gun and straight off. I don't think the aux pulley bolts are a high torque. The front crank pulley is the one, but still managed to get that off with our bigger snap-on gun. With regards to the cooler, I've positioned mine on the drivers side where the SMIC used to be, been fine for the last 3+ years.
Big Mark
Would 367NM be enough do you think? Just came across this? Perfect for very occasional use such as this? http://www.tesco.com/direct/auto-electric-impact-wrench/230-5634.prd?pageLevel=&skuId=230-5634&ui=mercury&sc_cmp=tp1_ppc_g__&kpid=230-5634&gclid=CO2NxrfK38YCFRDKtAodzPQMRw or this maybe? https://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/clarke-cew1000-electric-impact-wrench Edited July 16, 2015 by Big Mark (see edit history)
Rob W
IIRC the bolt is torqued to about 220ftlb, I'd go for the most powerful one you can get within reason. You'll also need a crank puller, you try and take it off any other way you'll probably end up damaging the seal or crank nose. Heard stories of people trying to lever them off. Big Mark
I've got a replacement crank pulley so will be doing all of them in one go. Might look for something with a bit more power.
