Marcus GTE
Another option is if your work is eligible for the bike to work scheme. I guess you would need to ask them. It's a government scheme btw. Basically you buy a bike using an issued voucher for halfords/ Evans cycles etc and it's repaid through your wages before tax, so you end up saving quite a bit. Once it's paid off you don't own the bike, but to buy it it was like £20 for me on a £1000 bike. It was about 5 years ago I used it.
chainy
It does seem like a decent price for that spec. I've got SLX bits on mine and they're very nice to use and are very responsive. Never heard of the frame brand though. You might want to go for a front fork with a little more suspension travel if you're going over rough stuff and I'd definitely put a shorter stem on it to make it more nimble. Other than that, seems like a good XC bike. Thanks for that I had never heard of the brand either, they are German and apparently are more known in the rest of Europe than here. Is there anything else worth considering for about £900?
Richie_k83
If you have the know how, just build one! I bult myself a hard tail dirt jump bike a few years ago, was pretty easy
charlton
Are you still looking for a bike? If you're looking at a second hand bike I have this which I've been meaning to sell as I've moved to a road bike. It's decent with full Shimano setup (hydraulic brakes/gears) would just need the gears tweaking and some new grips http://www.evanscycles.com/products/genesis/core-10-2009-mountain-bike-ec017149
Guest bereavement
Go to your local bike shop. They should help. Halfords don't care about you... only your money and profit margin. Go for a big brand at that budget as you will get some back up... Trek, Giant & Specialized are great places to start as you tend to find they will help if you do have a problem in a years time and they will hold some value much better than an voodoo or other cheap brand such as diamond back. 2nd hand can be good as long as you know what you are looking for, same as cars really, and for £500 you will find yourself looking at cars that were over a grand only a year or so ago. - - - Updated - - - oh and NEVER buy a bike from Argos..... EVER.

I went to Halfords and I must admit I wasn't impressed with the bikes there at all.
Guest bereavement
6'4" you need a BIG bike. I am 5'11" and ride a 18.5/19.5" so don't let anyone tell you that kind of size will be ok. Seriously go to an independent cycle shop. They will help.

It will have to be next month though as I've just bought a few parts for the Supra.

I had a quick look earlier but didn't see anything on the frame - you're probably not too far from me if you're 10 mins from central London so you can come round and try it out I would avoid going to Halfords, Argos or any other store selling a wide range of goods - they just want your cash and have no knowledge. I've bought my past 2 bikes from Evans and the advice/service has always been good, although servicing the bike has been a little wanting recently (Woking/Kingston)
Tsia
6"4 will need a minimum of an XL/21 inch frame (Generally). A 19 inch will have you far too cramped at that height, unless you have odd proportions. No offence
