Suitable cheap flooring for a garage

Hi everyone

So I am about to give the inside of the garage a bit of a tart up, just so the supra looks good parked up in there :D

Making some nice shelving for the back wall, just ordered a A0 version of my display picture to go on the wall too, and have a few car related bits in there already, along with the Supra Calenders. Rude not too...

Now the house is a rental property so dont want to spend massive amounts of cash as obviously I wont get anything from it when we move. But going to give it a lick of paint etc. This leads me to the floor, is there any cheap flooring you can get that looks good, is easy to clean and not stone cold to work on. And ideally removable so I can take it with me when we buy a place?

Thanks in advance

J

You can get foam like tiles that go together like a jigsaw. Doesn't seem to expensive.

You find someone getting rid of old carpet and take it away for free ;)!

I take it your talking about this type of thing? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/24-SQ-FT-INTERLOCKING-EVA-FOAM-MATS-TILES-GYM-PLAY-GARAGE-WORKSHOP-FLOOR-MAT-/300779222474?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item4607d6b5ca

Is it any good?

And would do carpet but it wouldnt be easy to clean

I can't personally say but it's cheap and if you got it in that dark grey then you won't see much dirt

Those foam tiles are cheaper in Halfords 10 quid or 8 quid on trade card

I looked at those, they're for putting on grass etc for kids to play on. Completely useless for a garage floor IMHO.

I guess it depends if you want it to be durable.

I will go check them out and if they are the same as the ones online I shall scrap that idea.

I have had these in my garage now for about a year and they are ok, the only thing is they do compress under the weight of the car and then take about a day or so to go back to normal. They are ok imo and save your knees, especially for the price. Though they are not good with trolley jacks and you need a chunk of scaffold plank to spread the load under the jack. I notice that SteveM has laminate floor in his garage and I reckon that's what I will go with if I ever do it again.

Kind of agree... I have these in our gym and under the weight of the machines they do compress a fair bit. However, they do spring back into shape after a day or two and it's way better than having the cold concrete floor!

If you can put up with the inevitable dents that a car and other bits and bobs will cause, then it's a cheap and fairly comfy, easy clean (just use a vacuum with the hard floor brush down) fix.

Just buy a big roll of audio carpet from ebay. I had loads left over after doing my install (enough to almost fill the garage floor) and it serves its purpose. It's black so doesn't show dirt, it's grippy on the underside and comfy enough to work on.

Ok another option to check out, is audio carpet different from normal house hold stuff.

Just taken the measurements and I need 483cm x 236cm

I used Dyno Tiles and they were great, but can work out expensive depending on the area you need to cover. I actually still have a load left over (used) of the chequered black, grey and red tiles which I have been meaning to advertise for a while
