Best rear tires for grip?

Just looking for some advice, I'm really enjoying the Jag XFR, reminds me of my Single Supra :) anyway perhaps I'm enjoying it tad to much as it really struggles with traction :D it will lite them up any nearly any speed, it's quite a skill when pushing on.

Looking for some grippy tires and just wondering what you guys recommend these days on the Single Supras? It's currently got 285/35/20 P-zeros.

Cheers chaps

This is coming from my Dad not me, he's now running Michelin Pilot Super Sports on his XJR and the grip is fantastic, the p-zero's/dunlops that seem to come with the package don't seem to be as grippy as you'd expect (which you've found out :D). From a none Jag point I had them on my GTR and they were great, not sure if you had that tyre on yours?

I run the MPSS tyres on the GTR and they are rather good on the road, but will be moving on to the Cup2s in the next few weeks - just need to kill off the current set :)

R888s are good in most weather, but will struggle to clear standing water and also make a hell of a noise!

A psychologist :)

:rlol:

Im with Chris on this one Rob, more sensible size rim with higher profile sidewall and something sensible on there (not R888s). Also my be worth getting geo checked.

The P-Zeros have good initial grip but I found when using them on track for Time Attack that they would over heat easily and loose all grip.

All weather - Goodyear Eagle Assyms for me, 400BHP BPU and no problems at all. Will be buying again

^^^ This!

I run 265/35/18 on my 400bhp BPU TT and I'd say I have a 'spirited' driving style and they grip in all weathers with minimal slip.

Also get some nice feedback and feel from them I think compared to other brands I've tried. Just my 2p worth. :)

I'm getting tyred of your constant pun(cture)s Chris.

Federal 595RS-R tyres.

Not really good at anything, but you know the smoke you're creating is costing you considerably less that the stuff from the Michelins! :)

Interesting I find the RSR's great when I've used them on track and road, though not so good in wet.

TBH I ran MPSS, Goodyears and Dunlops on the GTR and it didn't make a huge difference, they are (as you know :D ) a grip monster! I've been spoilt with point, stamp and go :)

Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 are the current best tyres, surpassing the Pilot Super Sports, in my opinion.

Getting the sizes has been tricky though, took ages to find them for my GTR.

Right loud and clear going to get some MPS Cup2 or 3 and see if that helps might go up a size as well! Although its booked in for some 'alterations' so might have to rethink the whole thing after that :D

Put some smaller diameter wheels on it if they clear the brakes, and taller profile tyres. These 20 inch things are 95% a fashion statement.

Yeah looked into that but the brake are massive, particular the rears seem oversized! But I agree I think it would ride better with 18" on!

Ah my comment was more of a stab at the prices of the tyres being mentioned in the thread to be honest mate. I've done a reasonably easy track day, to break the tyres in, and one round of the Irish Time Attack series on the 595's and honestly they've performed fine. But I definitely think the Kumhos V70A tyres I had prior to the Federals were a class above. Unfortunately they were also twice the price!

Just got some p zero corsa for the rear of my supra and they hook up very very well, changed the balance of my car too much and have now fit some new tyres up front as the rear grip seems to have offset the balance,

I rate them highly
