herbiemercman
Hi Guys, I see some turbo systems fully insulated and some not, what are the advantages , the suppliers quote better performance? and turbo care? What do you think.? Am i right in thinking that when you go from your na to a turbo you have to replace the part synth oil for fully synth. ? All replies will be appreciated. herbiemercman. Chris Wilson
They keep heat in the turbine, and a tiny performance gain may result, but their main benefit is stopping the near white hot turbine housing burning nearby parts. If the turbine housing is made of high nickel content cast iron it will survive a blanket, if not, (and no petrol engine performance turbo should be made of anything thermally inferior), expect external and internal casting flaking, which will erode the turbine impeller. Although semi synthetic or good quality mineral oils should be fine, current fully synthetic known brand oils are probably the best choice for a modern turbo engine. All modern oils have a downside though, in that the damned Greens have made the manufacturers take out ingredients that gave the best anti wear properties. I am told you can buy oils from China with all the good stuff in them though, but that's hearsay. I still say flog it and buy a TT.... herbiemercman
Many thanks Chris, Good technical answer as usual. I could buy my brother's tt which you sorted some time back, but i like my na manual and i like the drive quality, i just wanted some more horse power at a fair price, there is a lot of support for the na/t's in the club, also i only cover 2,000 miles pa and my mileage is only 45k from new, so just have to give it a go. herbiemercman. j_jza80
Is it pretty much the same for manifold wrapping? Would love to have the manifold on my single build Zircotec coated, but I'm not sure I can justify the expense.
