Rant! Bonfires!

What is it with some people, don't know if its a Norfolk thing, but ever since I moved here, every summer especially when the whether is hot and sunny, and in the evening when everyone is outside chilling out in the garden, some knob has to start a bonfire and smoke every other poor sod out, so you end up shutting yourself in a really hot house with all the windows shut.:diablo:

Tempted to get a drone that can carry a can of petrol, and drop it...give them a real bonfire!!!;):bang:

There's someone who owns a field behind my house sometimes has bonfires. I like the smell and the smoke is too far away to affect me so I don't mind :) If it was my neighbor though I could see how that'd be annoying especially if they're burning some plastic garbage or whatever.

Some dodgy builders working on a house down the road always burn stuff out the front. I was in the garden the other Saturday and the waft of burning plastic and all sorts comes over, sure enough the fire was going like a good 'un, then suddenly a massive bang and fireball come from that direction !! Don't know what the deadheads put on there, maybe a small gas cylinder or aerosol? Regardless of the fact they shouldn't be burning any old shite, one day they'll kill someone.

Phone the fire brigade. It might be different in England but I've put out bonfires where for example a gardener was burning branches in a residential area. We have a clean air act up here I think that means you're not allowed to have a bonfire unless it's supervised by a responsible person at bonfire night.

The officer in charge might use his discretion and tell them to reduce the size of it but chances are they will put it out for you.

Under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 (England, Scotland and Wales) a statutory nuisance can be any dust or effluvia from any trade or business premises or smoke, fumes or gases emitted from premises so as to be prejudicial to health or a nuisance. For a nuisance action to succeed the offence also has to be a cause of material harm or to be persistent or likely to recur. Nuisances may include smoke from bonfires, unpleasant odours, grit and dust. (In Northern Ireland statutory nuisances are currently regulated under the Public Health (Ireland) Act 1878, as amended, which includes powers for local authorities to serve abatement notices. The Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Bill introduced into the NI Assembly in June 2010 makes provision for similar controls to those applying in the rest of the UK.)

In many cases a friendly approach to a neighbour or business can resolve the problem. If this fails, complaints should be made to your local environmental health department. If they are satisfied that a nuisance exists steps will be taken to abate the nuisance. This may involve serving a legal notice, which, if ignored, can result in proceedings in the Magistrates Court (Scotland – Sheriff Court). The Courts may impose an order to prevent the nuisance and a fine. Continued non-compliance can lead to further fines. The local authority also has power to abate the nuisance itself and recover costs.

What happens when the dodgy builders don't exist on the system and not speak de English, not really sure they'll listen to anyone or even understand.

Bloody foreigners, coming over here, taking our fire & wood!

Don't have this problem in the City :D

Racist !! ... anyway, they're burning plastic and gas cylinders, maybe even their Granny and some 'non-believers' too :D

Infidels :D

On a serious note, have you approached them? The gasses released might not be safe to be inhaling.

No mate, they look well iffy. I doubt anything they are doing is legal, big house with tight owners using cheap labour.

If that is the case then tell the tight owners they might get fine, might get them to clean up their act.
