Chris Wilson
Quite why homosexuals cannot practice their peculiarities quietly and modestly, without recourse to vulgar public displays bound to cause offence in many regions, I don't know. Since the (relatively recent) law change they have gone from grubby meetings in known haunts to ostentatious exhibitionism, fawned on by the Liberal media, and promoted to youngsters in schools as a perfectly healthy and normal lifestyle choice. Personally, I believe making it legal should have been enough, but a large faction seem to want to either make it compulsory, or express "pride" in it via a London march notorious for its gross excesses and for the fact that the cost to clean up after it far exceeds that of any other similar sized event. j_jza80
I agree, these things do seem OTT. But I hope that the participants response is to throw an even larger, even more flamboyant event at an even more sensitive time. Bigotry has no place in society, especially the institutionalized national bigotry that Turkey has just displayed. hardly surprising - baby steps Baby steps is good for the bigots, but prolongs the suffering of the oppressed. Agreed, it's gone from wanting people just to accept to sticking two fingers up to mainsteam society and ramming it down peoples throats (what a thought !) j_jza80
To be sure, US, British and generally Western foreign policy and intervention have made the situation worse. But ISIS kill more middle eastern muslims than any other group, so their motivation is not purely revenge against the west. They want to establish a hard line religious state, and inflict their cruel ideology. Some even believe that their overall goal is to bring about the end of the world: http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/anne-speckhard/isis-iraq_b_5541693.html But regardless of that, we can not undo what has been done. For better or worse we are going to have to see this situation through to the end. But allowing this self declared Caliphate to exist must not be allowed, and that is something we are more than capable of dealing with, should our politicians stop playing games. Was going to say that this problem is hopefully going to be solved by the right people who are: Paid way above my pay grade - most likely not true Way more capable than me - if the last 25 years if anything to go by then probably not the case either - even an idiot would do a better job. Want to save lives - doubt they care about Syrian lives, Arab lives or any life for that matter - look at the thousands of their own soldiers they have lost due to these unnecessary invasions. Genuinely want to solve the problem and bring peace - as above + looking at big business inc the weapons trade that benefits not to mention the constant propping of allies in the region to maintain the unrest. What is true though is that the genie is now out of the bottle and we all are in a far worse place even in sunny Britain.......
Kendo11
I follow this journalist on twitter, if I'm honest it's mainly because lots of her articles are very funny. cered
I properly hate ISIS, they share no interest with the Muslims they claim to be helping and representing. You know a group is bad when Islamic terrorists/radicals such as Al-Qaeda and the Taliban go against you as they feel you're not upholding the Muslim faith or values. Hope Tunisia recovers from this, people are (rightfully) worried about going to Tunisia, but hopefully it's a freak thing that won't happen again. Its a shame that one by one these fairly poor countries are being targeted, with Tunisia one of the more liberal and peaceful of the islamic countries that rely on tourism heavily. Slowly but surely these nutter groups (who seem extremely well funded and organised and in this case may even have just influenced this lone nutter) are increasing their stranglehold. I'm sickened by it, they pray on the weak because they know they're too big to meet any local resistant save for militias or small (under equipped/funded) armies such as Kurdish forces or Syrian Army. Seems they got their money and power through organized crime such as robbing banks, as they grew they took on the Iraqi army, so then they got money, power and military equipment when the Iraqi army fled strategic locations. worse still, we're not even in a position to assist in a 'boots on ground' way because we don't have an army, we have a national defence force. it'l be another year or two before the UN or NATO come up with something to stop ISIS... By then they'll be in Morocco trying to get onto EU mainland.
j_jza80
According to the BBC, ISIS have issues a statement saying they are heading for Gaza. As if things weren't bad enough for the innocent Palestinians caught between Hamas and Israel
cered
According to the BBC, ISIS have issues a statement saying they are heading for Gaza. As if things weren't bad enough for the innocent Palestinians caught between Hamas and Israel ISIS are becoming hated, not just feared now. Hopefully ISIS entering Gaza will give Palestine and Israel a common-enemy. I'm hoping it will become a bit like the French Army's war in Mali where the locals welcome foreign assistance unlike Afghan/Iraq when that first kicked off.
