Anyone done the insanity work out

Hi people I'm thinking of doing the insanity work and wondered if anyone else has done it with good results,

I use to be 20st couple years back and got down to 15st, I'm currently 16.11 now and finding it hard to lose the rest,

I do go to the gym and I work out with my pal who is a bodybuilder and we have been smashing the weights no problem but when it comes to cardio it's just boring so I'm wanting something fun,

Many thanks guys

I'm working through it at the moment and it's not as tough as you might be led to believe.

The sessions are generally 40 minutes long but about a third of that will be stretching after the warn up and at the end. The exercises themselves are tough but like everything in fitness it's all about how hard you push yourself.

The biggest difficulty I have is finding the time every day to run through it, it really is a commitment. When you get to the double sessions on the second block and factor in recovery it's pretty much my whole evening!

Technically you don't have to do cardio to reduce body fat/ change shape. I'm in the same boat and I've been researching stuff for 3 years now, also my mum is a personal trainer so I can tell you the easiest ways to get slimmer. I'm only 5"4.5 and 3 years ago I weighed 13 stone so I was massively overweight, I now weigh 9st so have been through it all.

It's a general myth that you HAVE to do cardio to reduce body fat. This can simply be achieved by getting the diet in order. Yes cardio is beneficial but in theory it does exactly the same as getting your diet in order. All cardio enables you to do is eat more. To reduce body fat you need to be is in a calorie deficit from your normal maintenance amount and keep your macros in order (i.e fat, carbohydrates and most importantly being male, protein make sure you eat 1.5g protein per lb of lean muscle mass to ensure you never lose your lean muscle mass). As long as you are in calorie deficit and you eat the correct amount of protein you WILL lose weight in terms of body fat %.

You first need to work out what you need to be eating to stay at a maintain level then reduce it from there. It's a long arse thread to type so I'm not going to go into the ins and outs of it but generally getting to the shape you desire will be 75% diet 25% exercise. Make sure you lift heavy weights ATLEAST 3x per week and separate the workouts into sections of the body like chest/shoulders/back/legs etc.

I have been doing Insanity classes for a few months (once or twice a week), I think the class is far far better than a video as you are pushed harder, it is a great workout and I always feel good after,I mix it with spin classes in the week to keep it interesting

Insanity never gets easier, you just jump higher, push harder and move faster

I have done Insanity in the past too it is a very good workout and does take alot of commitment, as mentioned above diet is very important id recommend doing the Insanity workout and fill up on meats (ideally chicken most of the time) and it will fly off you, it did for me anyway. I kept aload of cooked chicken breasts in the fridge and if I was ever craving a choccy bar or cake I would just eat a chicken breast. I do love meat though so was easy for me to do that.

What is your height and exact weight, what kind of look are you going for? Built/heavy set or like athletic?

If you are lifting heavy I would eat slightly differently but yeah your near enough on the right track!

Early morning breakfasts make sure you get your carbohydrates in, so porridge is a great start perhaps add some whey protein in to add up your daily protein intake?#

For the rest of the day i'd avoid anything carb based unless you do a lot of heavy lifting all day like working as a labourer etc, for me I sit at a desk all day so the only time I eat carbs is early morning and straight after a weights session it all really depends on your energy levels and how you feel, you have to mix it up a bit so maybe you can have more carbohydrates on weights days and less/none on rest days

My normal diet will consist of something like this:

Early morning- Lean steak + broccoli

Mid morning - small snack (chicken breast/fruits)

Lunch - Cod with broccoli (have lots of broccoli its the god vegetable you'll fart like hell but its a great veg)

2hrs before gym around 4pm - Whey protein shake with whole fat milk

straight after gym - Whey protein shake with water (neck it straight after workout)

Dinner - This is where I try to vary it up to make sure the diet doesn't get boring. If you're going to cheat meal as we all do make sure its at least after an intense workout because your body will suck up much more of it. I normally have something like lean beef mince, brown rice and vegetables and if I'm feeling like it maybe a small amount of a sauce like ranch sauce or something (as soon as you can after weights)

This will normally total me to around 2-2200 calories which for me, is bulking because I'm not at all a big person. My cut amount is around 1650-1750.

The last thing you want to do is drop weight too fast because you'll become skinny fat like me

I think the most annoying thing about having a decent diet is the fact you spend twice as much on food and twice as much time preparing it

Do you have a link to this information anywhere? Could be an interesting read as I'm just sorting my diet out and considering joining a gym :)

Just play a sport, that is the best way to do cardio. I don't enjoy jogging but play football 2 or 3 times a week which is much more fun.

As mentioned diet is important to be honest, I eat anything... you just need to make sure you burn it off.

Yes sure :). Here is a great thread I've been using for awhile it's brilliant (Bodybuilding forums - you'll want to spend ALOT of your time reading up on all the guides they have it will change your mind-set completely.)

There is a discussion on cardio further down in the comments, but the basic principle of this fat loss is you don't actually need to do cardio

Take up boxing? A workout on a punch bag for 5mins is better than most cardio. Also lifting weights also burn fat, best bet maybe for you if you lack the motivation at home is probably join a mixed martial arts gym where they can teach boxing and they have the basic gym equipment.

Of course a big factor would also be dieting. Eat more often but less food.

I thought about this but then I decided I don't fancy getting a shoeing a few times a week ;)
