Any RS4 owners?

I've been offered a deal on my 911 for a lovely looking 2007 RS4 with 73,000 miles, and was therefore wondering if anyone on the forum had owned one and what their experience was?

Also the car is a Cat D due to it previously being stolen and the insurance paying out. With that said it has no record of being damaged or in an accident. As such I was wondering if this would have an effect on resale value?

Have you seen any information about what damage there was? If this isn't available and isn't recorded anywhere I would walk away.

At least when you buy a car with recorded damage you can obtain a report to see what was damaged. You then know exactly what you are buying.

My colleague bought an RS4 (think 2004), which has basically sat around but was very low mileage. Think he mentioned it was sold recovered too. He spent best part of £10k on it after he paid for it even though it looked fine! So be prepared to start forking out, as he wasn't expecting it from a low mileage car.

I love this car but I have never been brave enough to own one. Stories on PH scared the crape out of me.

Engine and suspension failures seemed common place and huge bills to boot. They also use a lot of oil. I would stick with the 911 depending on which model you have.

One of my work colleagues owned one and as Havard said he was topping up the oil like it was petrol!

Aside from that though he gave it a fair amount of abuse and it seemed to serve him well. Standard servicing costs are not cheap I believe. Brakes are Brembos as standard I believe and cost a pretty penny when it comes to replacing the disks and pads!

I'd pop onto RS246 forum and see if you can trace the car. I'd suggest condition of these can swing the price by £10k so it has to have history on suspension and carbon cleaning plus other stuff on the RS4 buyers guide. Is yours for sale? If not I wouldn't trust a swap offer especially on one of these. If your interested though you could ask where it was maintained? unit 20 and mrc are the main trusted aftermarket garages. And probs are better than audi themselves

Apparently there was no damage the Cat D was merely due to it previously being stolen.

As above really the seller claims there was no damage to the car.

That's my worry, I've read quite a few horror stories on how expensive it can be when things go wrong, to be honest I wanted something more practical and would prefer an auto.

My neighbour had one, looked great! But within a few months the engine blew up, luckily they bought the extra cover from the dealer other it would of cost them stupid money, something like 20k! But I love them, awesome sounding cars

Wow amazing what they can cost to repair, like you said they do sound awesome though.

I've actually turned down the offer now as the cash he was asking on top of my car just didn't make sense, I do love my 996 but need something with more space.

Thanks for the top I've looked up service costs and they are ridiculously expensive. Having slept on it I'm going to give it a miss as its just not what I'm after.

I've gone off the idea now but cheers for the tip. The car had full dealer service history however the guy seemed to keen to get rid of it. I had my car up on a swaps website as I thought I'd give it a try rather than seek an outright sale.

Think you might have just dodged a bullet. Although they are great cars, I don't think the running costs justify the greatness of you know what I mean. My colleague was telling me that things like small rubber gaskets were costing £45 each, he needed a set of 8 or something and couldn't believe how much they were charge for what basically was a very simple and cheap item.

His actually been on the Dragonball and just couldn't believe how reliable the Supra's were. He didn't believe me when I said I haven't had to actually fix anything yet.

One of our vets has one but is trying to get rid of it. He said if it were a dog he'd euthanase it. Apparently it was a

nightmare under warranty, and out of warranty he's working a day a week just to pay the repair bills. He priced up

an exhaust as he damaged a cat or silencer on a farm track, and that was the final straw.

One of the IT bods at work has an '05 RS4 Avant, he's only had it for a couple of months and after he brought it into the work car park a couple of the petrol heads went down and looked it over. What a fantastic sound from it!

He lives 3/4 mile from work and drives it in and back twice a day, by going home for lunch. If he sees me in the Supra at work, he always gives the throttle a loud blip to show off the V8 snarl.

Should I open a book to see how long the engine will last before a rebuild is required? ;)

Carbon build up will be his friend. These things need to be given a thrashing quite regularly to clear out the cobwebs.

I would have expected better from Audi.

I've owned a 2006 rs4 for 3 years now and it's been brilliant. Never skipped a beat never used oil, great on a daily commute and motorway journeys done about 35,000 all in all. Not even that bad on fuel all things considered, gets mid 20s day to day. The carbon buildup is an issue but it's not something you can do anything about sort of getting it stripped and cleared out. Mine went on several dyno days (mainly to just to have a giggle and out shout the teens with the fart cannons [emoji4]) and the average seemed to be around the 380bhp mark. Mine has 95,000 on the clock now but a mate has a low miler (around the 30,000 area) and his is running about the same 380bhp going off a couple of dynos. Great cars to live with just be prepared for expensive service items like brakes and tyres

And speaking of replacing a Porsche, had a bit of a dabble with a 13 plate Cayman S the other day on the way home from work. Rs4 picked her skirt up, shouted very loudly and gradually pulled away from it. Quicker than you'd expect for a sensible family 4 door [emoji6]
