D3xt3r
I'm currently installing the decat pipe for the first cat direct behind the turbos. The holes dont line up quite nice so I need to drill them out 1-2mm. But when I removed the original cat there is a little sensor plugged there I think its a temp sensor right? What did you have done to it? Should I just kill it away or try to glue him out of the way with some wire holders or something like that? Because there isnt a bung for it on the dp. JohnK
I dont remember any sensor in the first cat on mine, not an EGT sensor someone has fitted is it?
D3xt3r
No its definately a stock sensor on there. Its right at the end of the first cat pipe before it goes to the second cat.

magicmatty
I had one when I did my Jspec NA !! A stock sensor, just before the 1st cat pipe goes into the second pipe - I disconnected it and clipped it up out of harms way and havent had any problems in the weeks since!!! chilli
Yeah it's just the cat temp sensor, you won't have the cat, so you won't need the sensor! Just tie it out of the way, dont cut it off!! PS: where did you get the pipe, strange it doesn't line up!
D3xt3r
Got it from a member used. Thats whats crazy. It already was fitted but doesnt fit mine very good.
magicmatty
Has it got a flexi pipe??? Mine has (Chris Wilson special) and It took me a moment to realise it needed flexing into the right position - tight fit, but ok after a few minutes??? D3xt3r
Nah straight pipe without any flex. The problem is not the fitment of the pipe the problem is that it doesnt bolt up to the turbo flange above because I cant get it over the studs. Chris Wilson
Has it got a flexi pipe??? Mine has (Chris Wilson special) and It took me a moment to realise it needed flexing into the right position - tight fit, but ok after a few minutes??? My N/A first cat removal pipe has a stainless flexi section, as has the stock first N/A cat assembly. None of the turbo de cat pipes I make have flexi pipes as they are nor required. All my pipes are a perfect fit. Sounds like it's NOT one of mine! They are all jig assembled and welded, never, ever, had a single complaint of poor fit. Sensor in first cat on j-Specs is indeed a cat overheat thermocouple, it should be tie wraped up out of the way of the exhaust, and not cut off or disconnected. UK twin turbo models do not have these cat temp sensors, only J-Spec TT's.
D3xt3r
Gonna take a size 15 steel drill to the holes and extend them all 1-2mm and try it again tomorrow.
Chris Wilson
Are you sure you haven't bought a J-Spec 1st cat pipe and are trying to fit it to a UK / US spec car? or vice versa? the flanges are different, as is the pipe angle. D3xt3r
Seller is 100% sure he has an JSpec TT and I'm 100% sure I have an JSpec TT.
chilli
Thats really strange that they don't line up then! AFAIK the stud fitting didn't change at all through the years, did it? Maybe the pipe you have is just too tight on the studs and doesn't allow for slight variations, mind you, several mm, thats a lot, doesn't seem right at all. D3xt3r
Yeah but cant do nothing about it. Dont want to hassle the seller as he didnt remove nor install it on his car so I'm gonna try everything I can to make it fit.
chilli
Fair play, good luck with it I take it you got the nuts of the studs ok then? I have mine to do soon and I'm worrying over studs snapping lol. Any recommended technique?
D3xt3r
Just sprayed them with some WD-40 and every bolt and nut came of easy with the use of my big ratchet. Tried everything today to this thing aint gonna fit :/
Irvy
As the seller of this pipe i have offered toby a refund on the item and am directing this thread to the trader i originally bought the pipe from for some recompense, as when i had my CW pipes fitted recently i was informed a stud was sheared/broken in my manifold from said pipe - i put it down to wear and tear: guess this was the easiest option for the trader to have the pipe fit my car! I remember very clearly the difficulties they had fitting it - didnt realise how much tho! Irvine
