Electrical Short or bad earth?

Hello!

I've been busy with my conversion lately and this afternoon I got to the point where I was ready to try and fire it up for the first time. However, I hit a snag and I am hoping that someone with more electrical knowledge than I can help me out a bit.

Basically, when I connect up the battery connections, the door open symbol on the dash illuminates and my immobiliser LED flashes, like it used to. When I put the key in the ignition and turn it to ACC, the door open symbol dims and that's it; when I turn the key to ON, instead of the dash lighting up like a Christmas tree, there's nothing - everything is off/blank/dead. When I turn the key to OFF, my immobiliser light starts flashing again and the door open symbol illuminates again.

I've tried two different batteries (both work perfectly fine and start an IS200 and an RX-8 without hesitation), so I know that the batteries are not at fault; do I have a poor earth connection or is this a short-circuit somewhere or something else entirely? Any useful advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Here's a link to a (rather poor) video that I took earlier on (if anyone could show me how to embed the video, that would be great).
