Guest jj0201
Hi All, Have a problem with my supra going into reverse. The problem starts when the car has had a chance to warm up 15+ minutes, first time after warm up it is a normally ok but then after stopping and trying reverse again it becomes a bit difficult to put into reverse a tad notchy, them maybe after 3-4 more times of stopping the car and putting into reverse again it just will not go into reverse! I've tried pumping the clutch that doesn't seem to help at all, clutch has been bled to make sure there is no air in there and also a change of the gearbox fluid to royal purple synchomax, still hasn't helped! Wonder if someone has any suggestions on what could resolve this issue? I have a feeling this will need to go for a rebuild, if so where can this be done? Thanks, J
Chris Wilson
Does it go into reverse OK with the engine not running? Does it have difficulty going into 1st gear, at a standstill, engine running? Has it got a none stock clutch? If so, what make? My initial thoughts are it's a clutch problem...
Guest jj0201
Hi Chris, When the engine is not running it will go in a little, then hesitate then go in fully but with a slight clonk. 1st gear i think is ok? I'll have to check next weekend. Spec Clutch Stage 2+ Supra 6 Speed
Chris Wilson
I would suspect the clutch. I see loads of this. You *COULD* and just *TEMPORARILY* take all the play out of the clutch pedal pushrod, even preload it a tiny bit, and see if it then goes in to gear OK. If it does it's definitely a clutch related issue. But do not leave it like that, it will knacker the bearing and possibly the crank thrust bearings, just use it as BRIEF test! Guest jj0201
Thanks for your suggestions Chris. Because this clutch had only been fitted recently, do you think it could've been fitted incorrectly?
MATT RR
Hi mate, I had a problem with reverse on my car recently, then it would not engae at all and was clunking into other gears as well, when you waggle the gear lever does it feel very loose? It may not be related to my issue at all but if it is mine was a simple fix, link to thread below: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?314887-Help-Please-reverse-gear-will-not-engage Hope this helps and its a simple fix for you like it was for me. Chris Wilson
Thanks for your suggestions Chris. Because this clutch had only been fitted recently, do you think it could've been fitted incorrectly? God knows, I would just be guessing.
