Airport Taxi's or hotels with parking

To save my old man the bother of getting up at silly o'clock and taking us to the airport im looking into getting either a taxi or hotel and parking for 15 nights + the night in the hotel. Not leaving the the supe I hasten to add, just my runabout!

It will be for the end of this month and from Southampton to Gatwick and return.

My old man would cost about £80 in petrol so im looking for as close to that as possible. My neighbour tells me his daughters friend got a hotel and parking for £50! but cant get the name of the place for me, does sound too good to be true.

All the taxi's ive looked at have been around the £180 - 200 mark and hotels around £130.

Anyone have any suggestions / recomendations?

Hire a car! No, really, it's by far the most convenient method. Hired a car from Hertz each way last time we went to the States, came in around £88 all in I think. Obviously you have to pay petrol on top of that, but you have the benefit of being able to drive right up to the terminal, you don't have to worry about leaving your car somewhere dodgy, and you're totally in control, not relying on anybody else. I think a couple of car hire firms do a special deal especially for driving to and from airports, Avis may be one, but it didn't work out much cheaper than 2 single hire days for us.

Worked out cheaper than a taxi, bus, train (£222 to Gatwick on a super saver!), or parking at the airport for us.
