David P
I don't think the brakes are going to influence the value of your engine.
masterfett
probably not was just a copy and paste from invoice, thanks smart arse
Chris Wilson
So basically, internally, it's had a used crank, new bearings and oil pump, but is still on 100,000 mile bores, pistons and rings? And still on a 100,000 mile head with original guides and valves? Hard to value. The 71 degree `stat would put me off, it will have been running far too cool all the time, and never boiling off water from the oil. Could even have stayed in the cold start area of the map a lot of the time with excessive fuelling. Only way to find out is advertise it and see what people offer you, talk is cheap

Chris Wilson
Ok, sorry, it may fetch £5,000 in a bull market.....
masterfett
fair enough, was only curious. wasn't expecting a huge amount, that said better than a used £2500 ebay jobby.
Chris Wilson
Definitely! At least it's had some expensive bits changed and some costly ancillary parts, too. These things are worth whatever anyone will pay at the time, if someone is desperate to get a car back up and running they'll pay over the odds, if the market is dead or saturated you struggle to move them. Might even be worth some fag packet calculations and see if breaking it os worth more, probably not though.
masterfett
Yeah again only really curious not intending selling! i had just seen some for silly high prices and wanted to see what people on here thought! about the thermostat however, i cant imagine paul would have put one in if he thought it would cause issues in the long run? not to mention even bother stocking them? unless there is a reason he used one that i am unawares of! Scooter
I'd of thought one of the best aspects would be that you could demonstrate the running engine in the flesh to any prospective buyer?
Chris Wilson
This came up once before, you have to understand that we traders generally rub along well, but that does not mean we agree entirely with each other. I agree entirely with `er indoors, as life is slightly more tolerable that way. Not living with Paul I can say that I do not agree with these cold `stats. they are for very specialised usage in race engines, where low coolant temps *MIGHT* just give a bit more power. The engine needs an ecu that is mapped to run at low temps correctly. I strongly believe all road car engines should have a coolant `stat that gives similar coolant running temps and warm up time as a stock one. Running cool sounds, `er, well, cool. But IMHO they are bad news. I do not even run one in my totally track orientated Skyline, it has a stock thermostat in it. But ask any room of experts even the simplest question and await hours of `umming and `ahhhing, ad nauseam I am right though, of course!
