I was tempted with one a mate has at his workshop that the owner wants rid of, its a

Black 3.0 SE 05 plate done 60k for £6500 2 owners but its just not ticking all the boxes

other than its cheap and Black and in very nice condition :)

I had an sl500, beautiful car but I was allways driving it waiting for something to break, I wasn't filled with confidence in it. cant put my finger on why, just didn't feel like it would like me driving it hard.

Not sure what the normal roadsters are like Dunk. The M is savage and probably not suited to a more "seasoned" gentleman. At 40 I am wondering if it is a bit much for me.

The one in the link is not quite an £11k car though is it :) an 06 plate with 75k is £20,000

I would keep away from the SL55 if I were you Dunk. Some eye watering bills are highly probable.

500 or 350 if you want to keep your wallet heavy.

I agree mate, that's why i was looking at the 350 and trying hard to not even contemplate

an SL55 or even the SL500

An 05 plate with 60,000 miles is £25k

The budget is going out the window rapidly

Nope this meets all the criteria at £20k ;)

2005, 45k miles, FSH, and warranty, best colour too after grey. Automatic and all.

[emoji16] I should have read the thread properly. I think the SL is the best choice then. I refrain from posting anymore ;)

:)

I'm 99% convinced i want an SL350, just looking for the right one now

Probably not everyone's cup of tea but I really like my S5. It's a good blend of practicality I.e. I can take the family out but then on my own it's a pretty quick (0-60 in 3.9) obviously mapped, pulley, miltek exhaust with a custom mid section etc etc sounds like this:-

Only with this now as I've got the revo intake

Sounds mental!

I would not touch one of those SL's with someone elses bargepole.

My dad had an Sl500 from new, and was forever having issues with the roof, suspension, stereo etc. He was lucky that it was all covered by warranty, as I dread to think what some of the bills would have come to. It was a beautiful looking car in tellur silver (IIRC, it was a very light met. blue), but the interior felt cheap too for what it was, and although it was quick, it did not feel sporty. He changed if for an XKR convertible, which was in a different league in all respects.

I would be looking at the R129 shape SL500, especially one of the last silver arrow editions. The values of these are rocketing, and they are regarded as one of the best built cars of all. They don't have the trick folding hardtop, but they can come with a lovely panoramic removable hardtop.

I guess there's not a car made that doesn't have a few problems with some individual cars

suffering worse than others.

The SL350 doesn't have the dodgy ABC suspension which is why i was looking them, its an option

from what i can see so still need to be careful.

Plenty of happy owners on merc forums and of course a few that have a car with a list of faults.

I best stick with my E46 but as good as they are they have inbuilt problems too, rear sub frames cracking

being the worst, it's just had a re call for an airbag problem, drivers mirror ribbon failure is common and you can't fix other than buy a new mirror at £300 +

I don't want older i want newer, the 129 for me is a non starter

I would go 350 then. Reading up on PH last night (don't know why), the lack of air suspensions seems to eradicate a lot of the complaints from owners where one side has dropped etc.

Electrical problems are always a possibility though. If you don't want blistering performance then it sounds like a nice cruiser.
