Swampy442
Just fired my engine up for the first time in 'a while'... Need to leak check it, check the auto box operation etc. How long can you safely run the engine, a minute? 30 seconds? 5 minutes?
bignum
A minute is normally ok, however last time i did this my waterpump started to leak right after.
Richie_k83
The Engines Oil acts as a coolant. However, i wouldn't run it more than a minute tops personally.
Pete
Good question, let's do some science to find out. Start it up and time how long it takes before it smokes, then explodes and belches fluids everywhere and we'll have the answer to your question. Don't forget to video it for the archives. Havard
This will not be good for the water pump. Lubrication is everything, just like the ladies.
Kendo11
To put it scientifically, no longer than the distance from your old place on Whisby Road to the Mazda garage just after Sainsburys. That's how long it took mine last time when that coolant hose failed to kick up a steam and splutter and almost shat itself.
Swampy442
Thanks for your help, but I put the hoses on and hooked the rad after the initial start up.
Pete
Thanks for your help, but I put the hoses on and hooked the rad after the initial start up. Much more sensible!
