tbourner
Wife needs a new car, probably won't be buying until next year so I've got some time for prices to drop, thinking around £25k budget. She wanted a Nissan Juke, as they're very individual, she doesn't want to be boring. But then she started looking at Audis and has fallen quite in love. I suggested a TTs which she did like the idea of but unfortunately there will be times when she goes to fundraisers on her own and will need to get into bumpy fields and down badly kept gravel tracks etc. Not proper off roading but certainly not something for a low sporty number. So, shortlist is Q3 or Juke, the Nissan would be brand new, the Audi a few years old. Anyone had one? What are the gadgets like (apart from being expensive!)? The Juke has all the fancy round view cameras and whatnot which I'm not sure if the Q3 has. Obviously Q3 will be much nicer to be in though. She won't get in a BMW and Fords are too plain, before you ask
MattP
If your not buying the Audi new then don't buy one they are hugely unreliable cars diesel and petrol..

tbourner
If your not buying the Audi new then don't buy one they are hugely unreliable cars diesel and petrol.. How? Every review I've read says they're great for reliability.
cered
Oh that's annoying, think my browser posting the comment without allowing me to add an extra paragraph. Audi q3s are decent... but there's no reason at all in buying them, there's no benefit in space of practicality over a considerably cheaper and more attractive hatchback. You'll probably find a lot of the reviews are either average scoring or say a 7/10 because there's nothing really bad about them... But they're nothing to really get excited about. My suggestion would be to take the Q3 budget, and apply it to premium saloon cars. You'll probably find you can get a lot more car/toys for your money. Don't think a 'crossover' is anymore capable of the majority of FWD cars either, my uncle & aunt have a AWD Kuga which is great... But they've found its no better in the wet & mud than their Ford Galaxy
Hitbox Junkie
Landrover defender? Or Toyota land cruiser? The juke looks fun though they are a bit odd looking but have that sort of cute look to them too.

But they've found its no better in the wet & mud than their Ford Galaxy Yeah I've been thinking that, which is why we started looking at the TT, GT86, Supra was mentioned of course, also some hot hatches (although she's auto only, so tricky to find) like Golf R, A45 AMG. Really the reason we've gone softroader is due to ground clearance, it really isn't off roading but it would be nice to know it can go over big bumps and dips without worrying. Landrover defender? Or Toyota land cruiser? The juke looks fun though they are a bit odd looking but have that sort of cute look to them too. Bit too big. She likes the Evoque but bloody expensive and I've heard some bad stories about reliability of all the Land Rover models! The main reason she likes the Juke is for the quirkiness, but when comparing to Audis they're just very cheap and plasticky.
bayside_supra
I'll do you a mega deal on an Alfa or a Jeep if your Mrs fancies one of them If not the Q3 is nice but no real benefit over an A3 in my eyes. I would look at a focus RS if a hot hatch is possible.
tbourner
Isn't the Focus manual only though? Seems to be the way with a lot of the nice hot hatches. I did suggest a 4C to her, but that's really not appropriate for bumpy fields! I'll have a Grand Cherokee SRT-8 though.
bigbloodyturbo
If your not buying the Audi new then don't buy one they are hugely unreliable cars diesel and petrol.. This. Buying out of warranty on modern German cars is a risk nowadays in my opinion, dont get me wrong buying out of warranty in any car is a gamble but the German marques seem to be able to have common faults that don't require a recall but do require you to re-mortgage to pay for in the event they fail ( a-la Audi stronic gearbox's that let go and cost £k's to fix)
Havard
If your not buying the Audi new then don't buy one they are hugely unreliable cars diesel and petrol.. Strange. Two guys I spoke to recently (as they were loading my Volvo onto the back of low loaders on separate occasions) both said they collect less Audis than anything. Seeing they pick up cars in trouble for a living, I tend to trust them. They also said to stay away from anything French..!!
tbourner
So what's the Evoque like for reliability?
bayside_supra
I don't think audis are particularly unreliable. They just are expensive when they do go wrong. Some people seem to think they plummet in value as well. Being in the trade I see modern audis holding there money very well so not the worst investment. As long as you get a good spec. Didn't read about the auto requirements. The new Giulietta QV is auto only now. Nice car that [emoji6]
MattP
How? Every review I've read says they're great for reliability. Brand new 2.0 TFSI week one broke down twice 1st time leaking fuel second time 2 injectors packed up owww and it was pissing oil from the cam covers.. Had to get picked up from the dual carriageway it broke down on so told Audi to keep it.. A few weeks later bought a second hand 3.0tdi from Audi with 2 year comprehensive warranty (lol comprehensive my arse) 3 months into ownership the car threw its auxiliary belt chopping the wiring harness and wrapping itself around the crank seal spilling oil all over and scuttling the engine in the meantime. 3 years old 30k miles on the clock full Audi service history ^^ vorsprung durch technik Lmao what a load of shit... Ah yes and both cars were top spec black edition with S-tronic Boxes and I believe the S-tronic box is now nackered on this one... Lucky me
sidewaysdan
We had one as a courtesy car when the a5 broke down and to be honest it was terrible, the drive was horrible and the 6 speed gearboxes I think they took that from a jcb. Very small inside no boot space. If you can stretch it to a q5 that would be your best bet.
