Scutch0
Hi guys, I've been suffering with a issue with my power steering lately, at times when it's under load it's making a hell of a groaning noise, it's topped up and there are no leaks in the system whatsoever. I've seen someone on here talking about Cleaning the filter mesh? I've done a search but came up with nothing, can anyone help? And will this solve my issue? As the steering so isn't heavy when it happens, it's just very noisy!
David P
Take out the header tank and give it a good washing through with petrol, you will see the mesh filter in the bottom.
Scutch0
Oh ok, brilliant! I assume it'll be a drain the fluid job then?
David P
Only what comes out of the tank.
Dazzi
As David said but with mine I had to poke around abit inside with a screw driver to release some crud. Use a light to see what's in there.
rider
I changed my power steering fluid because it was starting to smell. Prevention is always far better than a cure. Dip your finger in and if its darker or smelling less than sweet than new fluid then change it. If its darker and gritty that's not a good sign.
