Syvecs Pops and bangs map

Can anyone tell me of the pops and bangs cal on Syvecs setups is done on fuel cut/spark cut??

Im trying to work out why that map does nothing on my ECU and I think its because the only thing set on the map is fuel/ignition cut but the Cal is not configured to use that map.

Or anyone that has pops and bangs configured on their car can you send me the map and tell me what Cal it is configured on so I can compare the differences?

How would you load this onto syvecs?

I'm still learning lol

Multiple ways. Im only going to compare the difference between these maps manually for a specific Cal setup. There however is some good videos that Ryan has done on the syvecs forum on flashing the ECU for an upgrade and loading and comparing maps/using the software.

Just be careful with the have a go part. Remember you are playing about with the device that controls the most expensive part of your car to repair. At least learn how to back up the Calibration thats on there so you can restore it if it goes wrong.

Cant do much damage connecting a laptop and reading logs and what the map does. Its useful to know incase you ever have to log something to diagnose a fault.

The software is actually really good and easy to work out what does what. its just all the interactions between maps that are complex and you really need to understand what else your effecting.

Make sure you only update the area concerned and dont overwrite the whole map, that would be bad ;)

Pops and bangs can be done in different ways, years ago we just use to richen up the overrun area, you can also use the antilag strategy etc

I am guessing people wishing to do this havent got CATs installed, if they have it wont work and you stand a chance of wrecking the CAT :D

Wez, If I send you my map do you think you could validate what I think is configured?

As far as I can work out Cal position 5 is configured to turn ALS on with the use of ALS Calibration 2. However Calibration 2 appears to have very little configured where as Cal 1 has ignition retard and fuel cut configured through the throttle range.

I believe I need to change the ALS calibration to CAL1.

OK had a quick look and antilag CAL1 is for running / rolling antilag, thats on cal switch positions 9 to 12.

Cal switch position 5 is using antilag CAL2 which is configured for pops and bangs on over run, ie should be dumping some fuel and adjusting the timing so you burn up the fuel in the exhaust, it should come into play when you are off the throttle and engine braking to slow down, thats when that area of the map will come into play, it then shuts off at 1500rpm or below.

Right I get it. So when on over run and above 1500 revs it should do something. Im thinking the reason its not doing anything is the Start Calibration | bypass vehicle speed is set to 10kph and speed sensor is broken (wiring fault) so it never actually engages??

And the minimum speed is there so its doesn't do anything when the cars stationary. So I can set the speed to zero and it should work.

What speed is being detected then, is it always zero if so then I would say yes thats going to cause an issue.

Sounds correct, TBH its been a while since I have played with it but you wouldnt want it popping and banging while sitting in traffic or at a set of lights, but when you pull away and then lift off and let it coast down it should pop and bang nicely :D

So what's the point of this whole pops and bangs map?

No point apart from a bit of fun, not that dissimilar to an old V8 like a TVR crackling away on over run with open pipes ;)

Haha we all love that sound :)

Does drivability suffer with this map?

Its not exactly fuel efficient and should not be used if the car has CATs installed :D

Speed being detected by the ECU is zero. I just need to remember to take it out of cal 5 when I don't want it. But sat at lights it will be less that 1500 rpm so should be fine. Ill have a play tonight and if the cars stationary and runs like a pig I know thats whats wrong with it.

Cheers for the help, cleared up my confusion around how it functions.

that actual one that wez is talking about is a anti lag for gear change, where fuel is added and the timing is retarded to about 40 deg in the vacuum map area which makes the spark happen with the exhaust valve open making flames go through the turbo making it spin ;) is used alot in rallying.

would be intrested to know how much its been set to retard though as less retard would less of a flame /anti lag but still pop and bang i guess ?

Back when using an AEM ECU I just use to pull timing and add fuel in the main map, its fine to do that but just meant that it was always active :D

By using the antilag feature it means you can easily enable / disable with the calibration switch plus you get a lot more control.

That's what my aem does. Does your head in after a while. Then you get used to it. Mine does it on over run. But if I dip the clutch It stops. So I can drive in and out of my road without everyone complaining :)

Indeed, dipping the clutch is prob just allowing the revs to drop below the point where its been mapped to pop and bang :D
